A while ago someone asked about taking their Corn outside. I made a video of what Maizey does when I take her out and let her crawl through the grass. Seems unlikely that she could "run away!"

A few weeks ago there was a show on snakes on PBS. One segment showed how the Red Cockaded Woodpecker defended its nest from Corns by pecking the tree around its nest hole, causing sap to drip down. When the climbing Corn encountered the sap, it instantly dropped off the tree.

I was amazed at how easily the Corn climbed the bare pine trunk, and thought I would see if Maizey knew how to do that. It was so cool! I just touched her to the tree, and she instantly gripped it securely with her body. Here is her video:

Maizey is a wild-caught unsexed Corn that I have had for about 13 months.

I did this once or so but I had a concern that a hawk could swoop down and grab the snake. They do climb trees real well!
 
Was the show "Wild Wild World of Animals"? I saw a scene just like that when I was a kid (long time ago). Show about Okefenokee swamp in Georgia, and the snake got eaten by an alligator after it fell off the tree.

It was a beautiful snake too. That scene was what turned me onto corn snakes, many years before I discovered how favorable they are to captive breeding and domestic living.

That Maizey's a real natural at it too - really seemed like she was in her element. Maybe I'll introduce my little guy to a tree when he's more grow'd up. He certainly seems to like climbing all over everything in his viv.

I saw that show on PBS. It came on this past Sunday here. It was Nature, not WWWOA.

It was a good show and didn't demonize snakes at all. I like the part where it showed how the Vietnamese killed off all the snakes and rats destroyed their crops. Now they are reintroducing native species of snakes in those areas. It showed how very important snakes are to the environment.

Oh, sorry. That was sort of a hijack, wasn't it?
