Sosa's Enclosure

I DON'T KNOW IF I PUT THIS IN THE RIGHT CATEGORY OR NOT SO GOING TO PUT IT HERE AS WELL.

I have been away from the board for so long that I forgot to ever post pictures of the build we did for our corn snake, Sosa.

My son's room is only 10x10 so we needed to come up with a plan that incorporated a queen size bed, clothes storage and a snake enclosure.

I worked on plans for a few days and we came up with what you will see here.

Sosa now has a huge enclosure with a Pro-Products heat panel and a Johnson Controls A-419 Electronic Temperature Controller.

Many told us that we should not try the fake mulch however when I spoke with the rep from Dupont who was at Lowe's selling their product, she stated that it was safe and would cause no harm.

We have used the rubber mulch for 5 months now with no problem. Vet checks have shown no respirator problems, and no other health related problems. I will not recommend this product as I realize there was a real fuss about it, however I will state that it works well for us and 1 bag yields 2 changes of substrate, so we can take one out, wash and dry it while still having another to put in its place, until the next cleaning.

Anyway.. here are the pics.. hope you like it.

looks nice, but I know snakes aren't too fond of big vibrations (bass from stereos being one of them), so I'm curious as to if you've insulated the viv from the stereo beneath it? From what I understand, the vibration can stress them out if its too much or too close. That would be only concern, but I'm sure if you either have it insulated or are just careful with your music, it's probably fine.
I don't know too much, I'm fairly new around here and don't even have a corn of my own yet, but I've been doing a lot of research and it seems fairly accurate.

anyone have any more of a concrete opinion or suggestion on this ?

I posted this in two places and answered this in the other section, sorry about that.

Here is the reply to that question asked by another member of this board.

We thought of that. If you look right above the speakers you will see a decorate strip. Under that strip and attached to the bottom of the enclosure is Sound insulation. It is a type of board sold at hardware stores.

There are two layers. One under the subfloor of the enclosure and around sides and back, the other one under the full enclosure ( the underneath side ) This has been finished awhile and we have had no problems.

Because our sons room is so small we tried to think of all variables when making this thing, which is why we put the sound barrier in. There was just no other place for his stereo so we had to come up with someway to keep that noise (vibration to a minimum ).

I agree if you are not going to do any type of sound barrier it would be best not to have a stereo in or around close quarters to your snake but with what we have done works to avoid that problem.

Now you know why it took us so long to finish, lol. You have to think of every aspect and scenario, not just for the person who will be using the room but to protect the snake too.

It was worth it though, but I can honestly say, I don't think I would ever do it again. It took a lot of time and well lets just say ... a husband and wife working on a home project together, doesn't always end up with both sides agreeing... ROFLMBO.
