Last night I feed my snake a pinkie.The lump wasn't very big,but you could see it pretty good.Today,well this afternoon,the snake was out for a while,and looked like the lump was almost not even visable.
Is this normal ?.I am pretty sure he didn't regurg it,,if he did,its in one of the hides.I'll check tomorrow.I have decided to go with the 1 pinkie every 4 days,instead of 2 every 6 or 7.
What do you guys think ?.
 
knock on wood. I haven't had a regurge yet but from what I read is that you can't miss the smell on them so I wouldn't think you had one. And your good on one pinky every four or so days. But the basic rule to feeding is every five to seven days.
 
the regurge would be a very bad smell. look around and through the substrate to check for anything "black and nasty". it might have been too small a dinner and has already been mostly digested. remember that you need to feed something 1/2 the size again of the biggest part of the snakes body (towards the middle). they can really eat bigger than what you think will fit in there. if nothing is found then on the next feeding try to pick through your bag of f/t feeders and find an bigger one to feed. please keep us updated on the progress.
 
The pinkie I picked up came from a Petsmart.A little plastic container with 5 or 6 pinkies.So far they seem to be identical in size.I'll have to see if they sell them by size this way,,if not,I have a snake shop not too far away sells f/t and live.I know they will have varying sizes.

the pet store would be your best bet (next to ordering in bulk online). the very first snake i had got fed from Petsmart also. They sell those little pinkies in a pack of 6 for like $10. i didn't know any better and was not too familiar with the other places to get frozen. the pet store here had live, but i wanted to stay with the pre-killed. anyway, those are pretty small so if you can either go in on an order with someone to get them shipped in or make a trip to that other pet store and buy a few to get you buy. they should/could have regular pinkies, large pinkies, peach fuzzies, fuzzies, large fuzzies, etc....if not, online companies have pretty much all sizes. keep us updated.

I would say that the best place would be Superpet. They sell pinkies for 6 for like 6 something and they do have all sizes of f/t including rats. I would agree that you food item could be too small if so, try feeding 2 pinkies every 4 days, thats what I do works like a charm.

You should actually be feeding 1.5X the largest girth unless the snake has recently regurged or it is his first feed since you got him.
 
Imho, you might want to try to find someone to go in with you on a bulk order online. It is much, much cheaper, and the mice are of really good quality. I promise, I don't work for an online rodent supply store! :) Of course, you could just keep buying snakes until you have enough to justify an order... :grin01:
 
:shrugs: well my chances of finding someone to go in halves with on a bulk order of frozen mice,VERY slim.I would have a better chance convincing my wife I needed another snake :rolleyes: ,,but,no big deal.Like I said I can give the local guy some support with his mouse sales,,which I think is a good portion of how he makes a living.I know in the past he has mentioned how he sells on line and in bulk.I'll be "window shopping" over there soon.
 
All most forgot to mention,,I did check around to see if there was any "vomit"piles.Nothing :) ,but as far as stool "piles",,I did find a few small white looking piles.I think these where droppings ??.Snake was out and about last night,so I took him out for a while.Let him crawl around on me and the kids(the wife was at work :cool: )

The white is urates, the little black bits that where most likely right next to or mixed in with the white is fecal matter. Glad you're enjoying your pet.
 
I go to Petco for my mice since I didn't have room in the freezer for a large amount of frozen rodents. It was that I could hand pick the size I wanted, but they have now gone to packaging them individually. I was told that the Petsmart around here won't even sell you a mice if they have a hint that it will end up as dinner for a reptile.

Looking to make an online order though.... like the size that snakes are getting with Mouse Factory dinners :)
