snake heat mat vs human heat mat

Can the human one be controlled by a thermostat, and if so, can you get it to go low enough?

Bear in mind that a human's normal body temperature is above a Corn's ideal maximum. I doubt you could get a human heat mat to run below normal human body temp - it would feel cool to us otherwise, which would be pointless for human use.

Perhaps someone will be along shortly who has actually used one, but my feeling is that I'd stick with the specialist reptile heat mats.

Human heating pads are not designed to run non-stop, or unattended. Using one as a herp mat would likely be a fire hazard.

There's also the fact that human heatmats don't give an even temperature distribution, resulting in dangerous hot spots. Stick with the reptile heat mats. and use a thermostat with any heating device you use.

In my opinion, when taking care of a live animal, I would get whatever is best for the animal (the reptile UTH) regardless of price. I would never get something that was possibly unsafe for the creature in order to save money.

My 2 pence.

I know some people who use human heating pads and swear by them, but personally, I agree with Marty. I would consider the snake's wellbeing over any cost savings I might have. Besides that, most human heating pads have an auto shut off built into them. You would need to get the ones with the stay on feature, and they cost about as much as a regular reptile heat mat.

Thanks for the replys just got uth today... Just wondering, it doesn't feel as hot as the human heat pad but why are the temps actually highter... Is it becoz of even heat?

Thanks.

Nope, it's because humans like higher temps on a heating pad than snakes need. Even though yours feels cool, compared to the human pad, chances are that it is still too hot for your snake. You need to invest in a thermostat or rheostat, and a digital thermometer with a probe--if you don't already have them.

They make reptile heat mats for a reason, if human ones worked soo good there would be no market for them, that is all i have to say.
