This may come in handy. . .

Seeing as so many leopard geckos die from impaction on calcisand, including our first one because we believed what we'd been told, I'd strongly disagree with that.

I don't understand why Calci-sand is not recommended for corns, but it's listed as ok for kings and milks. I'd never use it for any snake.

I don't understand why Forest floor isn't o.k. It's basically just shredded cypress like what I use for my Green tree pythons. If you dry it, it's pretty nice looking natural stuff.

Question about sand, and I appologize if this has been answered before.

But there are several species of snakes that live in places filled with sand. What is differant about those snakes who live in the natural environment that seems to have no adverse affects that differs from corns?

Or is this one of those captivity vs. real world things?

Snakes that live in sandy enviroments have specialy keeled scales and are meant to be there, so the sand wont get up and under the scales and irratate them, like sand boas or some rattle snakes,

but snakes like corn snakes and king snakes dont live on loose sand so there scales arent designed to keep the sand out from under them

sorry if thats not the best explanation, wasnt sure how to better word it,

i hope that helped,

Personally, I use Aspen for my Corns, Calci-Sand for my Bearded Dragon and
have used different types for Tarantula (currently she's on crushed walnut).
They all seem to be fine with them..
