Repti Bark

Has anyone used Repti BArk (or similar products) in their cages? I've heard it's a hassle to clean up, although I find the carpet is a big hassle itself. I don't like the look of aspen. I also feed in a seperate cage. Would it be okay to use?

I've used the repti bark and it just makes it harder to find the poops in there. It also doesn't offer much contrast when viewing any snake that's not light colored. Normals, anery's etc. kind of blend in with the terrain.

Ahh... I used repti bark and in this experience I've found that
1- its hard to find them in,
2- its hard to find their poop
3- its dusty
4- its really hard to really get in the viv and clean it,
5- ... i found that water spills to the bottom and doesn't get absorbed at all into the bark,
and the kicker is that they are notoriously famous for bugs in the pakaging. now... I know you can freeze the bag to get rid of the bugs.. but.. really went through alot... just letting you know my story.

I thought about using the "repti-bark" but when I when to buy some they were sold out. So instead I brought the diced coconut husks. It seems to offer good contrast for spotting poop, plus it clumps quite readily when pooped on. Clean up is quite easy as well.

That was my penny's worth.

I have a question that goes similar to this. I just bought a baby lavender, and I'm using aspen, however, he is so small, that he burroughs underneath and it's always hard to find him. Anyone have any suggestions on what to use for awhile that is easy to clean?

Newspaper, especially un-printed is great for snakes when you just get them. you can easily spot any mites, or problems with their poop. and it's easy to clean. Some people use it for their snakes all the time.

I've used Repti Bark for the last 3 years, and I haven't had any problems with it. However, I am going to switch to aspen, when we next do a complete clean with the vivs.

Aspen is a lot cheaper, and it's at almost any pet store. Repti Bark isn't as readily avaliable.

Aspen is recommended, so I'd just go with that.

I actually have an easier time finding Repti Bark than aspen around here. The petstores always seem to be out constantly (apparently there is a shortage sometimes).

Personally, I'm an Eco-Earth advocate. I like the natural texture and color, and it provides a great contrast to my anery corn. It also helps maintain appropriate humidity levels, which is otherwise hard to do without daily misting where I live. Plus, my snake seems to like it a lot more.

i use lizard litter, it has small chips and are able to be ingested and passed through no problem. It's also easy to find the poops and holds moisture well. I will never use anything else!
