I just got my new snake, and the hydrometer says its 70%, which i know isnt good.

I already have the water on the cool side, and i have a wire mesh top.

is there anyway to get the humidity down?
 
Oh and its 74% humidity outside right now (since it just rained).

do you think that has something to do with it?

Yes. check it after it's been dry for a while
 
How old is your hygrometer anyway? I've noticed that they're broken much easier than, say, a thermometer. Depending on where you're from, the humidity should drop now that the weather is cooling down anyway.
