Misting

Brizzle

Craziness
Hey.
Since I'm a first time owner of a snake, I'm new to everything.
And I was just wondering..Do I need to be misting my snakes cage?
I haven't..And I just wondered if I should be doing that.

Basically, you only need to do it if you have really low humidity where you are. But there are other ways to keep up the humidity. The average humidity around my area is just right, so I don't need to do it. But I do it while they're shedding, because they need higher humidity when they're shedding.

Moderate humidity (40-60%) should be fine at all times. Where in California are you? If you are anywhere near me, you most likely won't have any problems.

I'm in Sacramento.
And since I know it needs to be humid and stuff for them to shed okay, I haven't seen my snake shed once since I've gotten him. And I don't know if that's a good or bad thing.

Your snake will go through a shed cycle regardless of the humidity. The humidity doesn't cause them to shed, it just helps them when they do shed.
You will most likely be fine when the snake sheds. I wouldn't worry about spraying the enclosure unless the snake does have problem sheds.

Okay. Should I get something so I know what the humidity is? Or not worry about it since it's probably fine?

It wouldn't hurt to get a hygrometer to be sure, but you'll most likely be ok :)
