I need some guidlines on plastic tub sizes. Ive been looking at walmart and lowes and they generally measure up to 40 quarts i believe.

Minimums and maximums for babies?
Mins and maxs for adults?

What do you prefer/ suggest?

I have built my racks to hold four different containers. Hatchlings can go in any style shoebox. The ones I have are an old model of Rubbermaid that can't be found any more.

Subadults go in 12 quart Sterilites. These are available at any Target store

Adult Corns and most Kings and Milks go in 32 quart Sterilites also available at Target.

For the big Pits and Obsoletas, I use Rubbermaid Christmas wrap containers. These are generally available at either target or WalMart

Agreed, though I use 41 quart Sterilites for the larger ones.

Here's a photo of my adult male Anery Bloodred in a 9 1/2 gallon (or 37 quart if I remember correctly) Iris box. He's 4 years old & 450 grams in the photo. His cool side hide was removed for the photo.

'Piper'--- how do you heat that tank?

How does everyone else suggest heating plastic tubs?

I made the rack out of melamine. It's heated by Flexwatt heat tape, temperature controlled by a proportional thermostat.

A few things to research if you are thinking of building a rack:
Flexwatt is rated in watts per foot, you will want to calculate how many feet you will use & what the total watts for the rack are. Proportional thermostats are rated for different number of watts depending on the brand. Make sure you buy one powerful enough to handle your rack.

I have 3 different types of proportional thermostats, although I only use 2. The 3rd is a backup in case one of the ones in use goes.... then I don't have to scramble to buy something while my corns freeze, lol. Spyder Robotics was the last proportional thermostat I bought & is my favorite by far. The next one I buy will be one of theirs as well.

Here is a pic of my T's rack I just finished building. It's 8 foot long, 7 levels high. 5 levels of 16 quart Sterilite, and 2 levels of 14 Crystal shoe boxes. With using 6 watt 3 inch flex watt I am using only 336 watts (56 feet) to heat the whole rack. My thermostat handles 1000 watts.

No recommendations for sizes...... sorry, but wanted to tell Piper that I really hope my anery blood is gonna like his/hers! That lighter coloring is not usual in them but mine seems to go that way!

For hatchlings I use 6 quart sterilites.

16 quart (pictured in my previous post) for yearlings.

32 quart for adults.

41 quart for bigger critters.

Per a PM request, here is a picture of my whole rack. As described before, with the addition of the 6 Nature's Spirit shoe box racks on top.

Nice rack Dave. But I know you don't house ALL your animals in that 'little' thing.:grin01:

You are correct. That is just the new tarantula rack I just made. The other 12 Nature Spirit racks and 3 other 8 footers similar to this new rack help house the majority of the rest. :p
