Well, i have looked around and i still cant find information on what I'm looking for, well my snake is 2ft long "about" and hes in a 2ft Aquarium that i made into a vivarium, now i was wondering how long he will be able to stay in this 2ft one until he will have to go into a 3ft one?

Now what do you guys think? i mean hes a sleeper, day and night all he does is sleep sleep sleep, ill be lucky if i see him up even when all the lights are out at say 4am in the morning, so he doesent move around allot, but yea theres the tank when should i get it "if i do" now or can he last abit longer?
 
Nice set-up, He should be fine for now, but a 3 foot one won't last his whole life, a 4 foot one would be a better investment. He probably eats, sleeps, eats, sleeps at the moment because he's always digesting a meal and busy growing. When he's bigger and on 10 dayfeedings he'll be more active in between, but then that'll depend on his personality. When I open my tubs I can see a snake trail in the bedding all the way 'round the edge so I know my big snakes do have a slither around even if I don't see them doing it
 
Thanks yea, hes like 2 ATM, so i will have to invest in a much bigger tank will this last a few more month? because then its my birthday and mummy will get me one :p muhaha :p

yea lol, theres a baby on the way so a digi cam will be coming soon hopfully! :) thats another good point that comes with a baby "mummy i want a digital camara to take pics of the baby" :p
 
Nice set up you have. Yes, as Janine said it would be better to get one that will last him his whole life.

Thats a good thing to ask for for your birthday. :)
 
This topic is brought up again and again. There is no set in stone rule as to how big of a viv you need nor for how long a particular sized viv will last your snake.

It is commonly agreed upon that the smallest viv you would want for an adult is "ABOUT" 30" x 12". In Canada, that would be considered a 20 gallon long tank. More commonly used for adults are 33 gallons which are 36" x 12" footprint. Bigger will always be better I think most of us can agree on that but so many factors can effect things...

Some have there snakes out and roaming quite frequently, some have plenty of decorations that they change up on a regular basis for stimulation. Another option is rotating the snakes into a very large viv every month or so.

As far as tubs go, it seems that most on here tend to go with the 24" x 15" tubs. I am currently using 30" x 16" tubs but hope to move to the 39" iris tubs someday...

Now I can give you a GENERAL "how long will this small one do" answer... If you had an "average" corn as far as age and growth ratio. I would say that you will do fine to use the 24" viv for about a year to a year and a half, then I'd move to something bigger. But again, that's just MY opinion! :) There is LOTS of information and opinions available on this board that you will be able to sift though over the years I hope you will be involved in corns!

:-offtopic thanks that's the first comprehensive breakdown of tub/tank size I've seen! I asked before what dimensions the various tubs were, because 'x gallon long' or 'x quart sterlite' doesn't mean a lot to a brit!

A 3 foot vivarium/tank would measure 36" long - which is actually larger than the minimum 20gallon long, which is 30" (or as I always understood it.) Sounds big enough for life to me, unless the snake gets exceptionally big. :shrugs:
 
I hear you Pliss, just giving my opinion, that a snake that will probably reach 5 foot will look better in a 4 foot viv than the minimum. (Mine are in tubs anyway!)

Sure, and I agree with you in that the snake should have as much space as possible. I was just pointing out that if the owner doesn't wish to upgrade to a four foot tank, he doesn't need to. As stated, a 36" tank is actually over the minimum size.
 
Keep in mind when looking for a larger tank that many corns prefer floor space over "arboreal space". Try putting a branch in the viv you have set up now and see if you snake takes any interest in it.
The 20gal long tank was mentioned.. "long tank" means the tank isn't as tall and has more floor space. Even though there's not as much height it's still enough to be sufficient for a growing corn.
The tank in question that you could get as a present looks nice, but I doubt it would suit your snake as it's permanent enclosure.
 
i got the 3ft tank on the way! i'am sure it will be a few years before he needs a 4 ft and i mean hes only 2 he wont be 5ft till like 6 years old :)
