maintenance feeding?

Will snakes that have been raised on just maintenance feeding catch up in size if feed regularly? I'm getting a few new corns and a couple are late 05 and around 12", that seems afully small too me. I'm pretty sure the 04 adults I'm getting will be smaller then I'm comfortable breeding this year and want to fatten them up for next season.

That does seem very small. I'd suggest it might be a typo and they're from 2006 perhaps?

They will start to grow a lot faster than they have been if you feed them more regularly but remember to take it slowly at first so as to not stress their little systems.

It might be a year or 2 before they are up to size but they will get to their genetic potential sooner or later.

Good luck.

Nope not a typo, I was told "I don't grow my snakes up as fast as other do" right from the breeder.

Like many questions relating to corns, the answer to this one is: it depends on the individual snake. Generally I find that most undersized corns that have been kept on bare-maintenance diets respond well to proper feeding, and end up "catching up". However, I've had a few that were slow to respond to a regular feeding schedule, or they refused to eat on a schedule that I would consider proper.

In short, think of the snakes in terms of their size, not their age. Treat a 12" snake, regardless of age, as a hatchling. Good luck.
