Types of Bedding

Greetings,
I am new to corn snakes, and I have a question regarding their bedding.

If I were to get fir tree chips to lay down, would those be poisonous to the snake?

If they are, what alternative bedding should I use?

Don't know about fir, but aspen is supposed to be non-toxic.

You could always use some old newspaper (old because the ink dries better after a week or so). Or paper towels or butcher paper.

wats up my snake just shed his skin like an hour ago but some of it was retained, not the eyecaps, i think i got it all off but how would i know if little pieces stayed on

Felceltic i dont know about the fir but i think it would just be safer to use something else just in case i got a baby too and i use recycled paper or u could use aspen shavings

There are several people who have had bad experiences using a fir bark substrate. Their snakes ended up having seizures, and one even died. It is not confirmed that this was actually casued by the fir substrate, but once it was removed the issues stopped.

If you want a natural looking substrate, aspen shavings, Eco Earth, or coconut shavings or bark are the most widely recommended, as they definately do not cause problems.

Why take a chance?

I dont know how it will affect snakes but fir trees (here in the uk) contain a irritant/toxin in there sap that means when u cut and trim them you get these horrible red blotches appear up your arms. So i'm guessin snakes crawlin through it wouldn't be good. Plus i have heard sites say pine shavings shouldn't be used and fir is very similar so...

Don't use pine. It can be a respiratory irritant and cause upper respiratory infections in corns.
