I have a big problem. I was at a local pet store today and saw a milksnake that was a beautiful little thing. The problem was that this store has never had a very good reputation and I won't normally shop there, but I was killing time and was wondering if they had improved anything. The poor little guy was in there and the bedding was crappy, heat didn't look right, I just really felt sorry for him, so I bought him, I went to another pet store that deals well with their animals and bought an exo-terra vivarium (small one since he is just a baby). I got home put him in it and everything seemed fine, then I went away for a couple of hours. I came home and knew that he hadn't eaten in over a week and a half, so I thought I would attempt to feed him(I know this is breaking the settling in rule for snakes, but he was very calm and even friendly when handle in the store and I thought I would give it a try, if he wouldn't take it, I wasn't going to over offer it to him) I went through the bedding, moved the hide, moved the water dish...no snake. :eek1: The only way I think he could have escaped was to crawl behind the background shimmy up the glass and squeeze through the accessory cord holes. I looked the vivarium over and never noticed those holes and even now, that had to be a very, very tight fit. I have a sand boa in one and had corns in others like it and never had a problem, but this guy found a way. :shrugs:

Now I have an escaped snake in my house and I have spent the last 3 hours moving furniture, crawling along the baseboards, the only place I haven't looked in the living room was behind the entertainment center because that is so huge to move. I am not going to be able to do that until tomorrow when I have some help. It is also a good possiblity that it might be down inside the couch or love seat somewhere because the ends of each of those were up against the stand that the viv was on.

What do I do???  Any suggestions, I hope I can get it back, beside the money I paid for it, I have really wanted it. I have always thought they were beautiful snakes, not as nice as my corns, but still beatiful.

Ps. I have two cats too. They are pretty docile and I think they might be more afraid of it and just leave it alone, but I am not sure.

Set up some traps... The coke bottle ones work well. Cut off the top of a coke bottle, and replace it with the spout INSIDE the bottle. You can put a fuzzy or something in there to attract the little guy, and once he's in, he usually wont be able to find it way back out.

Also, line the walls and stuff with crinkley paper, so if he crawls along it, you can hear him.

Also, if you have any heaters near the floor, or any "warm" spots, look around there. They tend to go for the warmer areas.

Also, dont rule out any higher places. They dont just stay on the floor, they'll get into anything they think looks like a nice place to chill out, haha.

Hope you find him!

Also watch the cats. Cats are curious by nature so even if they're afraid they'll still have to check it out (same as dogs). Good luck!
