The lids are driving me crazy

Crazy Tarantula Lady
Ok, I divided a 75 glass aquarium in half and laid it on its side with the opening facing out. Now I have to figure out what to do for lids. The openings are 22x18. I was going to use the expanded iron lids I had for it when there was a beardy in there but they are dark, hard to see through and I was concerned about nose rub.
I do have some old plexi glass lids from when I kept frogs in the tank. I'm thinking about cutting the middles out so there is basically just a plexi frame left and covering it with 1/2 inch hardware cloth.
That still leaves me with how to keep the lids in place. I can't really use hinges since the aquarium frame is plastic. I thought about some kind of sliding clips like on this cage

any ideas? I can post pictures of my tank if it would help with ideas. I need to get this done today as the snakes will probably be here next week and this is my last free day for projects before then. Oh and the snakes are 3 year olds, supposedly breeding size, if that makes a difference at all.

If you drill the holes correctly you can fit hinges to plastic.....unfortunately i don't know how to drill them correctly. Maybe if you search for Viv building threads you will get some ideas.

You can use the hinge method, infact they make hinges made out of acrylic. So you could probably just glue those hinges to lid and frame without having to drill. Then use what I did as clips to hold the lid in place. Although with this method it's probably permenant, so if you goof up you're screwed and if you get gule all over the plexiglass it won't look very good.

Or as stragen said, use regular hinges and just drill the plastic and secure with nuts and bolts.

I'm getting new plexiglass lids cut and attaching them with brass hinges. I will probably use the screen clips to hold it all shut.
I plan on drilling some 1/4" holes in the lids for ventalation, how many would be enough for a corn?

I would drill them around the border of each piece. That will be plenty of ventilation and that way it's not smack in the middle and distracting.

I got the lids all finished, they look pretty good. I'll get a picture tomorrow.
