The Order of "wild" snakes! : P

Pet Corn Snake

New member
Hello everyone, its George, just wondering if anyone has cought "wild snakes?" when i was on holiday in cyprus, a deadly one poped out some bushed, were i go to stay, in cyprus, its a little old fation village, were they still use cows and horses to do there crops and they grow there own food, its amazing, they bearly have electricity, and so i shouted my grandad "because i was really scared" and he come out and killed it, i was horrified, and here comes my little old nana with a little hand spade and baged it, i felt really sorry for it, but i was only young, it could/would have killed me, and ever since ive really been interested in not only captive kept snakes, but wild, and i was just wondering, what you guys do, to make such a wild snake, tame..

George.

Two of my snakes are wild caught. You just hold them for a few minutes and they settle right down. The only wild caught snake I've handled that didn't tame down was the baby black racer. Oh, and the coral snake wasn't given a chance to get tame- I just released her.

I go out just about every day when the weather is warmer around here. I've caught MANY snakes that are native to Southern California. I haven't kept any of the snakes that I've caught yet. There are a couple that I will keep if I come across them.
This summer my co-workers and I are planning on doing quite a bit of field herping. We are going to be looking for various rattle snakes. I will definitely post pics of any good outings.

You should check out the Natural History/Field Observation sub-forum here. There are some good pics of some cool, wild snakes.

These are all snakes that I found while riding my bike on a paved trail in a woodsy area. I was with other people, riding bikes, not looking for snakes, but as soon as I see a snake or turtle or tortoise or alligator, I have to stop. It's very common to see snakes sunning on asphalt pavement, or crossing it. The I just pick 'em up! I am only wearing the gloves because those are bike gloves- they aren't snake protection gloves.

I kept Maizey, of course, the corn snake I found in my front yard. I have also found a baby black racer and a yellow ratsnake in my yard. My Eastern Hoggy, Addy, is whild caught. She was found by an electirc crew- dug up out of brumation late in the fall and given to someone who gave her to me.

Where did you find the rough green snake Nanci? I would love to find one of these in the wild to photograph.

Baby Black Racer in my fruit tree where he was found in the grass while I was weed whacking!

The rough green snake was caught on the Gainesville-Hawthorn trail, near Kate's Fish Camp, in a small tree, right at a bridge going over a creek, about 11AM, warm weather.

Greg just had one the other day that he found during working hours. I told him to let it go- I didn't want it. They are so pretty!

This guy was up in Georgia, at a place called Deep Gap.

I didn't "catch" him.
