Golden phase White-Lipped python

DaemoNox

Abyssus abyssum invocat
One of my top species I've dreamed of owning. I got real lucky finding this one, an '06 captive bred female. She is one of the most beautiful snakes I've seen. The other phase out there is even harder to find, the black phase where instead of a golden brown body its as dark as their head. They're native to New Guinea, also called D'Alberts python (Leiopython albertisii). Whats really interesting about them is that they 'talk' by hissing for no reason or when they're being friendly, and they throw up hairballs called castings, like owls do (there were some even in the delicup she came in).

That's COOOOL! Now I'm wondering about phython phylogeny. Do you know which species are considered primitive and which are more derived? I'm guessing the GTP is probably more derived.

Many of the species has a big attitude, however there are some that will tolerate handling more then others.

The only real primitive python species I know of are the Australian Woma and blackhead python, which lack the heat pits other pythons have.

She's gorgeous! Has she talked to you yet? I bet she'd be so pretty out in sunlight...She's so irridescent!

I love her iridescence! That is one beautiful snake. Have you got a picture of the "pellets?"

I'm a little curious- i'd never heard of a snake doing that before...

I had an adult pair of the black phase, swapped for an adult pair of red blood pythons.
They were the most nuts snakes ive ever met, apart from a 5ft male black blood called Satan that a mate of mine had that really wanted me dead :grin01:

Awesome pickup.

They are by far one of my favorite snakes.
This girl is fine to handle as long as you either hook her out or let her crawl into your hands. Very cage aggressive. Reach in and you WILL be bleeding.

i didn't know they "spoke", thats pretty nifty, wish i was brave enough for a snake that agressive

These too are on my priority list... Absolutly stunning specimens, although the black phase deffinatley appeals to me more.

Truley stunning pythons
