Hi all :),

I want to ask does anybody have a candoia carinata carinata?
What do you give them for food?

Because i have a plan to give mine a pinkies, but my friend said that it would be no good for the diggestion, because in the wild the used to have a lizard or a gecko for food..

I need your suggestion then, is it true what my friend opinion is?

PS : I'm sorry if my english is bad :(

Another of my favourite pacific boas!

Much the same as viper boas, although a lot larger. Let me guess... WC? If so then you will have to wean it onto rodents. Yes they do eat amphibians in the wild but they also eat bats, rodents and small birds.

Of course in captivity we want them to eat readily available items such as mice and rats.

Although carinata make hardy captives, unlike Aspera, they will need a lot of work to get them switched to rodents. The easiest way is to try feeding live prey items for a short period until they have had a few feeds. If they refuse live, offer toad or lizard scented items (even live scented items). The trick is to give them exactly what they want then slowly wean them away from all those finicky methods.

You need to remember that because of their slow metabolism, adult New Guinea Tree Boas only need to feed every three or four weeks. Neonates of course need fed much more frequently.

Heres a great page on Candoia! http://www.kingsnake.com/candoia/

Hope any of this helps. Have you got any pictures? I am a huge fan of this genus

They are my favourite genus of boas :) Sooo underated and quite scarce in captivity. I just wish more people would make an effort to breed them in captivity!

Yours is a little stunner.

Thanks about your opinion :)

Thats what about i'm going to do :)
Since candoia carinata carinata is originally from indonesia (where i come from), it's not difficulty to find it here :D

But in here, there are no many people like it, cos they think candoia carinata carinata it's not a REAL boa, because they have a very tiny size if you compare it to BCI or BCC :D, and it is very difficult to make them eat pinky or mice, one oh mine,,he just threw up after my friend gave him pinky (his belong to my friend, but he is in my house right now, and i'm the one who taking care of him),,but i still love them :D

Btw, i'm thinking to give this little one name called ANUBIS, since he got a scary eyes :D

How's your opinion?

Sorry I didnt asnwer you previously but I think Anubis is a perfect name for your wee fella :)

Carinata remind me of ancient egypt for some reason, maybe the shape of the head.

The Nothing said:
yep, pinkies
when he was starting out, we were doing FRESH, tiny pinkies - about 1 gram each.
he's up to 2-3g pinks now :)
thanks for the answer :)
