Soleil:Hypo Florida King freshly shed

[Insert Witty Commentary]
Freshly shed and enjoying some time in the sun. She is a full 35grams heavier than she was when I got her nearly a month ago, and not at all "bitey" anymore(for those that remember). There's also one of her new home, which she is thoroughly enjoying every inch of. It's a 29gallon Critter Cage with the sliding screen top. Thanks for looking!

Here's a couple of poor ventral shots, too. She doesn't sit still long enough for a decent "Munson Pose", but we work with what we got...

oops...(now it has 10 characters)

She's such a pretty girl! And, like everyone else, I love her eyes. So unusual.

I like her color and crazy pattern. Very pretty girl. And a 35g weight gain in a single month is spectacular.

Amazing girl.. I love Florida Kings. After owning a big male I just fell in love with this species. I actually prefer them over Cal Kings.

Shhh...mee too, but don't tell anyone...

The breeder that lives near me and provided this one to the shop is holding onto a hypo male for me...:D...I'm hoping to get some babies in a couple years. I love the hypo floridana...

That is one gorgeous snake Chris.
I have been restraining myself from making this statement, but it's bothering me.
I think there's someting "a' fud" with that snakes genetics.
Can't quite pinpoint it, but she doesn't look "full floridana".
Whatever it is that I think I see, it works!

According to Shannon, the breeder, her parents were brooksi het. hypo and brooksi hypo. That would make her a hypo brooksi, I believe. But I am not nearly knowledgable enough in the genetics of kings to make even a remote guess. I love her, and I really love how "abberrant" her dorsal patterning is, compared to the majority of what I have seen of floridana. She doesn't have the typically "block saddles" like I usually see. Her dorsal markings all appear to be "zig-zaggy" and abberrant. I don't know what's going on with her genetically. I'm heading out to Shannon's place in a week or two, when my work slows down and I get some time. I'll see if I can't get some info from him...

That would be correct, given the parents genes. She definitely looks hypo, I just have never seen abberrant or zigzag in floridana before, but then again, I don't get out much anymore! :grin01:

Welll...can a corn be bred to a king? MOST of the corns that Shannon has are zig-zag or aztec...is there a possiblity of getting that somehow "in the mix"? I don't know...I'll have to ask him next week...

Absolutely! Jungle Corns are cal king x corn snake, I have not seen a floridana X corn yet, I think!

Now I'm really curious!

Me too!! I was already planning planning on bringing Soleil out to his place with me as he wanted to see how she was doing. Couldn't hurt to have a conversation with him about her genetics...

I know he has some creamsicles and rootbeers out there, too, so I suppose just about anything is possible...

You have a great attitude about this.
Most people would fly off the deep end at the mere mention of hybrid!
For the record, I wasn't even thinking of hybrid as much as, some type of intergrade. It's always nice to know as much as possible about the genetic history of your snake, but keep in mind, all that really matters is that you like her and care for her. I would!

Oh, I absolutely adore her. She went from being a bitey little bit#$ to being a puppy dog. I don't really care too much what her genetic history is. I love her because of the way she looks and her attitude. If those looks and that attitude is caused by an hybridized genetic history...so be it. I'm not prejudiced...I AM curious, however. I see the same thing you see, in that her markings are unlike anything I have seen in other floridana. Dean also mentioned this to me when I first posted pictures of her.

It doesn't really matter, too much. I will probably get one or two clutches from her, if only because the store I got her from promised to buy any "extra" offspring of hers should I decide to breed her. I am more concerned with the genetic histories of my cornsnakes. I am buying all of my future cornsnakes based on their genetics specifically for breeding, so it is fairly necessary to have as complete a genetic history as possible. With my kings...they are strictly pets, and I won't be doing any serious breeding programs with them, so...I don't really care, to be honest.

She is, at this point, my most confident snake. I say that because she is the first one to pop her head out and scope me when I walk in the room. And she is the only one that doesn't run for cover as soon as she sees me. She's my little puppy dog, for sure. And, of course, this makes her one of the first I go to when I want to hold a snake. She is simply an awesome pet...my little lap dog, as it were...
