"Quality Before Quantity"
Hi Everyone,
Well today was a pretty interesting day at work. As some of you know I work for a Harley dealership and we had our annual "We Couldn't Go To Daytona Beach" open house. This is something we do every year to get the upcoming riding season here in Maine up and running. My boss will have a sale and hire a band and another guy to take care of all the catering. The guy who supplies the food uses a renovated mobile home to cook his food out of (Bar-B-Q on wheels). Well towards the end of the day he had packed his things and moved on. We had placed a trash can next to vehicle earlier in the day for the customers to use and as usual people are messy and slobs and missed the can with some items. There were some old french fries on the ground with some other items. I had decided to get the can and clean the area around the can but before I did so I decided to have a smoke (bad habit I know  ). While I was smoking my cigarette I was watching a Seagull fill his gullet with all the tasty morsels on the ground when out of nowhere this huge Red-Tail Hawk swooped down and pounced on the Seagull. All you could hear was a quick screech from the Hawk and the solid thud of the impact. I could not believe what I had just witnessed as I was in total awe of this birds true strengths and abilities. The Seagull he had pounced on was as big as he was. It was totally incredible to watch. The Seagull never new what hit him it was over so fast. The Hawk was on him and with a couple of stomps of his talons and a couple of bites from his beak the task was done. I ran into the shop and told my boss what I had witnessed and he didn't believe me that there was this big as a Turkey bird eating it's dinner in the middle of our parking lot. I grabbed the shop camera (piece of crap) and rolled off a bunch of pictures. I actually couldn't beleive how close I got. I have gone through them all and posted the best ones that I had. Sorry for the poor quality but I had to share this story. Thanks for looking and I hope you like.
Jay

Wow, that would've been neat to see. When I'm at the zoo, I love watching the hawks eat. Even if we feed them f/t food, it's still need to watch them.

Scared me- I thought that was a pigeon!

I'm not making it to Bike Week this year- but hopefully I'll still get a T-shirt. I love Daytona.

Oh Wow. That would have been awesome to see! We've been having a bunch of eagles winter over here this year. They are staying right behind my ex's house and my kids have seen upwards of 30 - 40 of em at a time. I went to see them and I was only able to see 20. But haven't caught any of them hunting yet. Your one lucky man!

That's pretty cool. I have had the distinct pleasure of watching Harrier Hawks hunt small mammlas in AZ, Pergrine Falcons take pigeons from mid-air, and Bald Eagles take fish from a mostly-frozen lake. Very interesting stuff to watch...

Fascinating! Wish I could have been standing right there with you! I love the raptors and watching them soar, hunt, and well just watching them.
