When those of you who fly to Daytona return with live animals, how do you bring them? Do they go into a carryon bag, and if so, do they still run them through a metal detector? Does that affect the animals in any way?

If I were going I would just ship them to myself to avoid the hassle... I can just imagine trying to explain to the TSA workers 'these are harmless reptiles' when they searched my bag- My gut feeling is they'd be confiscated.

Is Daytona a good show to attend if you would like to purchase snakes with specific hets? i.e. If you want an anery with hets for hypo and amel, or something along those lines??

Yeah. Isn't it one of the biggest reptile expos in the country? I'd imagine they have hets and everything. Kathy Love, Serpenco, etc. are there.

Yeah. I have a few local reptile expos around that I may be able to get some good specific snakes, but I think for some REALLY specific critters, you need a super huge show.

Yes, practically everyone is there. Don S. is one of the few larger breeders who doesn't set up a table. But he is always there too (having fun instead of working, lol!), so you can at least get an autographed book from him! Great place to meet everyone you have been "talking to" on forums or via email.

Would LOVE to be able to go to a big show like Daytona. I'm sure it's an awesome show. We only have a small show near me that I've gone to once and will go to again next month for frozen feeders(if I have the will power for only that). But I only saw one table with corns last time. And yes I did get one..lol

Maybe as hatching season starts there will be more of a variety. Can't wait till you all come back on here with pics and stories about the show though. Atleast those of us who can't make it can live vicariously through those of you fortunate enough to be able to go.

Sounds amazing. I don't think we will be able to go until summer of '09. I'm trying to get into a house, and that will be taking up most of my funding once it occurs. But I will have a house to show for it, with no silly restrictions on the number of snakes I can have.

That's what the S.O. is for. :grin01:

Officially my second...

but this one counts for me. Kid doesn't stand a chance. He'll be a herper. :crazy02:

I would dare say that trying to board a plane with a pile of snakes wouldn't be an easy thing to do for awhile, not with everyone screaming "Snakes on a Plane!"

You could probably get a snake with exactly the right hets you want at a show like Daytona, but it may depend upon what hets you're looking for. Some of the big breeders, like Rich, don't label all the hets of each hatchling. The higher end morphs have hets labeled, but not the lower end stuff. You can find breeders that know all the hets for every hatchling, but whether they have them labeled at a big show or not could vary as well. Then there is the time needed to hunt down that particular snake. The number of vendors, snakes for sale and people attending the show may not be overly condusive for such a search. You could get lucky or go home empty handed. So what I'm trying to say is that shows like Daytona are terrific and you can almost always find something, or lots of somethings, that you want, but don't rely solely on it. Use the web as well for that one particular, extra-special snake.

And congrats Craig! August is the perfect month to be born in. But you're going to have your hands full with a Leo boy!
