Hello all!

We (my daughter and I) are new here and are planning on getting our first cornsnake later this week. :crazy02:
(I had box turtles and a snake as a kid myself- don't remember the snakes 'flavour' now...) :shrugs:

Anyway my questions are these:

Do cornsnakes need any additional lighting?
I'm not talking about for heating (I'm pretty sure we've got that covered) but for propper Vit D production?
If so, full spectrum flouresent?
I'd like to have everything set-up & working before our new arrival gets here.

I am pretty big on the benefits of propper supplemental lighting as I grow orchids in my kitchen and live in the grey shadows of Mt Rainier.

Most snakes do not require full spectrum lighting like lizards and turtles/tortoises do. Snakes get their vitamin d from the rodents they eat. You might also find that depending on the corn snake's age and personality, some will hide most of the time and want to stay out of the light. Most new young snakes will hide a lot until they become accustomed to their new surroundings and owners as well. Patience is the key here :)
