He's an '06 produced by Carol H.. Every shed is like getting a new snake. Every time I think I know what direction he or his girlfriend are heading in, they surprise me. I think they're very cool snakes.

Maybe other Bairdi owners can speak to this strange thing that I've noticed about them. Mine musk EVERY time I take them out. But the musk is invisible! Has anyone else noticed this? I've never seen the musky liquid, and they've never released urates or crap when they do it. I'll suddenly get hit with a big whiff of burnt rubber smell, but I never SEE the musk. It's a good thing I actually like the smell, because it is very difficult to wash off. When I was a kid there was a breakfast cereal called "Freakies", and for a while each box came with a rubber fridge magnet of one of the Freakies gang. Bairdi musk smells just like those magnets used to. Weird...

The other day I was complaining about how boring my pic thread titles are, and this proves it. They're so boring that people don't even read them! :grin01: His name's Byron. His gf's name is Belinda. :)
 
Great update! Looks like he is taking after dad. Funny neither of his parents musk. :shrugs:

Thanks Carol. :) I guess the "invisible, burnt-rubber frequent musking" gene must have skipped their parents' generation. :grin01: It's the only defensive behavior I get out of them anymore. Even the female's mellowed out. They're just very active snakes in hand. I have a hard time squishing them into poses for these kinds of shots. :rolleyes:
 
Hes just a completely different snake! Can't wait to see him after the "ugly duckling" phase!

Wow Dean, I can't say I've experienced that with my Bairdi "Silver", but I can say he'd still be worth keeping if he did do that, that's something I can say I've never experienced at all with the exception of perhaps garters or other snakes i've caught in the field, I've actually never been musked by any of the snakes I keep, ha, I guess that's a good thing. On another note, it's obvious that your Bairdi is quite a bit younger than mine, this one shown is around 4 1/2' long, what I miss is the saddles that yours has, I like how they really have that blending look going on, but mine seems to have retained the butter yellow belly into adulthood, not sure if all bairdi's retain that but I think it's pretty cool, yours is awesome by the way, I love the feeding response of him too, while in contrast to the corns he only eats like twice a month,(strange, I know), when he does eat, he'll be constricting one mouse while he's swallowing another, then won't eat for another 10-14 days again, just curious if yours eats strangely like that too, again, awesome bairdi, thanx for sharing!!

I love Silver's look. Neither of mine looks like it will develop the red that yours has, but who knows? I'd be happy if they did. :)

This guy eats very regularly, but my female sounds kind of like yours in terms of feeding. She doesn't always stick to the schedules I try to impose on her. Usually, my pair won't eat in blue either. But in keeping with their mysterious, "keep you guessing" nature, the male ate at full blue before this shed. :shrugs:

Wow, mine has never eaten in blue, some of my corns have but not this guy..his temperament is pretty good too, never strikes or anything but he grips you like he's somewhat nervous, it's amazing the power that ratsnakes have... guess I'm glad i'm not a rat, oh & on another note, only once have I gotten him to take f/t, he typically will only take live..., but I have a large critter cage, it's like 6" high by 24" by 12", I put him in there then drop the mice in, then quick shut the lid while all hell breaks loose, hehe!

Fortunately for me, mine both accept f/t. But the female hates hoppers. She's 108g, and I'm giving her multiple large fuzzies. I'll have to try a weaned on her for her next feeding.
 
You can tell Byron that he has 7 little eggie brothers and sisters today. :cheers:
 
Wow- I love his goldeny color. I always think of Baird's as gray/red, but yours is silvery and tan and gold. Cool!

He looks great Dean! The pair I picked up from Jimmy are still very dark, but with nice colors coming in. I got the same musk thing going on here! I think it smells like burnt popcorn, and I just hate that smell, lol. Ive been musked many times by my pair, but I never get anything on me. It is quite strange. Thanks for the update! I should probably do the same here as well. :)
