New Kingsnake

onelifetolive45

Too many to choose from!!
So I mostly deal with Corns, Boas, and Balls. However my local pet store has had this little banana kingsnake sitting on the counter for about a month and since I am in there all the time the lady gave me a deal. So now I have this little kingsnake and I really don't know too much about them. Any recommended books etc. or just some plain advice would be nice. I usually do a good deal of research before buying a new kind of animal but this was a real impulse buy. Help me out

What Joe said.

Kings are an easy snake to care for, if you know how to care for corns. Virtually the same in all aspects, except that they cannot "stretch" as much as corns for feeding, so stick with equal to the thickest part of their body, rather than 1.5 times body width...unless you are a brave soul like MBDorfer.

My favorite part of my kings is the fact that they become "garbage disposals" as regards eating. Anytime I have a refusal from one of my snakes, I can pretty much count on my florida king to wolf it down, even if she has already eaten her own meal. She has had 2 full size fuzzies AND 2 pinks in one meal...and she normally gets 1 large fuzzy...and she digested without issue in 3 days. LOVE her feeding response...

I figured tha care was the same. So far I am pleased with her(I popped her) I feed her today and she gobbled up two small mouse pinkies. She is a nice little snake I am beginning to enjoy her quite a bit. I hope my other ones dont get jealous.

My floridana, much like Nanci, is my favorite snake, as well. They just seem to be more "confident" than corns, which makes them more active in their enclosures, and easier(IMO) to handle.

And once you need to use it as a "garbage disposal", you will truly appreciate their feeding response.

Good luck with the new addition! Oh, and...POST PICS!!

I was gonna wait to post pics until thursday when my four new corns come in. But I might be able to post some of my king tomorrow maybe. Then some more good ones when the others come in.

HA I dont normally name my snakes unless their previous owner had a name for them or my girlfriend decides she wants ot name it. She found out it was a banana phase and named her Nanner lol.

That's a great name! How do you not name your snakes? How do you talk to them, then? I use my snakes names all the time.

Here she is......NANNER!!!!

She is in shed still so when she finishes I'll snap a few more.
She looks to have gotten some nose rub from being at the pet shop. It has gotten better since this picture was taken.

If you take her out for a few hours of TV watching and teach her five tricks like Choco knows, she won't have the time or energy for nose rubbing...Cali Kings are the geniuses of the snake world- they want to be enriched!
