Aluminum Foil Tape and Flex watt

Many snakekeepers use "aluminum foil tape" or
"Thermally conductive adhesive transfer tape", as its formally known,
as a way to expand the surface heating area, as well as a way to secure the flexwatt tape in place.

Does a thicker tape ( 7.4 mil.,beanfarm ) radiate heat better / more efficiently than a thinner standard grade aluminum tape does.

Are there any brands that have a noticibly better adhesive than the others.

what's the best branded / brand name product to use ?

Foil tape

1) This stuff is mucho cheapo at a hardware store. I'd go look there. Except for the flex-watt itself, everything else (tape, extension cords, solder, etc.) is cheaper elsewhere. Especially after considering shipping.

2) Without thinking too hard into the physics of it, I believe that since the tape is plugged in and basically gives off unlimited heat, the only factor in how well it radiates is the suface area of the tape. Thicker tape would transfer heat among itself faster, I think, but we're not talking enough to make a difference over the hours and hours it would remain on. And on the other hand, thicker tape just means more material to heat, so any subtle benefits in either direction would probably be neglegible.

3) As for how well it adheres, I really don't know. I'm not sure if you've seen/used this tape before, but I've used a few different brands, and poor adhesive has never been an issue.

Hope that helps...

Thanks for your response,
I like mucho cheapo when I can get away with it and still have Quality.
I had a roll given too me and the adhesive dried out after a couple of months for some reason, antique stuff probably. Musta been why it was free. Worth every penny.

I see you go to the the U of A , Excellent choice of college, my sister graduated med school there.
;) some borderline / almost great professors there* ;)

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, UA isn't that bad, and for having the nation's lowest in-state tuition, it's downright good.
