Say A Prayer for Roxy...

Gig 'Em Ags!! Whoop!!
Well guys I don't know if ya'll remember this but about a month ago I took Roxy my Red Tail Boa in to the vet because she was constipated and they flushed her and said she was clear to go home. Well another month has passed and she's back at the vet. Their initial diagnosis is not good and she has intestinal swelling and a serious GI infection that could may even be the start of kidney failure. She is a beautiful snake and I love her to death so I hope she gets through this, but she's definitly got one scared daddy sittin at home right now. The tests and diagnosis are gonna cost me a small fortune as well so so a prayer for my bank account lol. I find out more tonight and they're going to keep her overnight and run some more stuff on her tomorrow so hopefully I get some good news after that. FYI they believe I got her from the breeder like this because she has had the problem ever since I got her, so if any of you are from Iowa and live in the Ames area. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BY FROM THE ARK!!! That place is terrible and doesn't care for their animals well obviously. They put on a good front and are nice people, but my brother and I have both had problems with the animals we have gotten there. I hate to bad talk a breeder, but we're 0-3 and we got them all at the same time so I just want to warn people and let them learn from our bad experiences. Here are some pics of Roxy and I'll post more when I know more...

I'm sorry I missed this when you first posted it! So sorry to hear about your problems. How is she doing now?

She's doing better. They released her back to me wednesday night and she was still a little more lethargic and feelin pretty crappy, but she seems to be doin better now. There were a bunch of problems with her blood test and GI chemistry, but they fixed most of them and said that most likely she has had them since I got her from the breeder/pet store. So, I reiterate my concern for all of the animals sold through The Ark in Ames, Iowa and warn anybody and everybody to avoid buying from that place. She is getting a lot of fluids and going to go back next week and the week after for rechecks and I'm slowly bringing her back to her normal diet so hopefully things will keep improving and Roxy gets better. :D

Glad to hear she's doing better. Good thing you have a vet that knows what to do.

Sorry to hear about that! Have you tried talking to the breeder you got her from? They may have a problem they don't even know about; I know as a breeder I would want to know if 3 of my animals had not fared well at all. Regardless, this sucks no matter what. Hopefully she'll pull though for you.

She is beautiful. You're lucky to have an experience Herp vet close to you. They are hard to find at times. Hope she has a complete recovery.

They said these animals were from a petstore, not a breeder. The Ark I believe was the name.

They do breeding but mostly its a pet store. Either way I guess the place is known for having a bad rep is what the vet said, which is interesting because we're about 1,000 miles away. KJUN also said he'd heard of them and I guess they are just known for not selling very healthy animals, and I was completely unaware of that at the time. Like I said, my little bro got me the snake for Christmas and we've had troubles with her since then. Good thing I live in College Station where we have a great vet school and zoological vet department.
