How to regulate temps?

Lennycorn

Just see the truth
I have a problem. I just built two new cages (will post pics once I figure how to resize) and I'm running both flexwatt off of one "Zoo Med" reptitemp 500 thermostat. But one cage is cooler than the other, up to ten degrees. Both "setups" are exactly the same, same size, light and with the same thermometer and probe silicone to the same spot above the flexwatt. The only difference is the cooler cage one is two foot lower than the warmmer cage. I have them "stacked" on top of each other. I just wondering if anybody has had a similar problem before and what they did to correct it?
I know my next step would be to check that both thermometers read the same but before I remove the probe from the dried silicone I wanted to check with you guys.
Thanks.

My first thought upon reading that the cooler tank was lower, is that "heat rises" perhaps having a heated tank under another heated tank is rising the ambient temp for the set up on top.

The uppers..... Oh don't tell me I should move it. Now thats going to be a pain in the a*%. But it make sense.

Personally, that would be the first thing I would try. Not sure how much of a difference it will make, but I suspect it will make some difference.

Put the probe in the cooler cage, stabilize the temps in that one and if the other one is still consistently warmer by the same amount you could always try a dimmer on the warmer one, still attached to the thermostat as well.

Probably ten degrees difference.
Thanks
