The Ashley empire AKA fun with mouse ears :-)

Snakes in designer genes
Ashley is my only mouse with a name. He's a rather stunning, big typey mouse:

So, in an effort I am sure my snakes will appreciate ... I want those ears and that size on all different colours of mice!

His March girlfriends are all now pregnant. They are one Burmese:

And some silver agoutis:

His April girlfriends are more varied:

And, of course, my favourite - another silver agouti:

So - any theories or ideas on colours to expect? And how many generations do you reckon until I can breed mice that look like Ashley from my bog standard pet shop type mice?

If I breed him to everything then the chocolate and black banded show bucks that arrive next weekend won't have anything to mate - poor boys!

Seriously, I would prefer just to mate him to my "spare" does and see how it goes. If something about him doesn't produce what I want, or if his daughters aren't as fertile or good at raising litters as I like, it'd be nice to have something I haven't outcrossed to go back to.

At first all I saw was "fun with mouse ears", and all I could think of was some horrible collage of f/t mouse ears from the bag... :puke01:
Sadly the only contact I've ever had with rats was a vicious rat in a science class, but I enjoy seeing the many varieties!

Should i really be salivating over mice!! I think im turning into a snake.....

Ashley looks awesome, ha ha i want him as a pet. I wanna see his big eared pinky children when they arrive.

Aah, I should post some of my rat varieties photos then - lots of them are completely different to the mice!

Jimmus, after only owning jumpy, flighty mice, the temperament on Ashley really surprised me - he is sweet, tame, and very calm. Definitely one for the breeding box not the feeding box!

Are you sure, that the silver-agouti isn't blue-burmese? Does that mouse have darker points on the nose, etc? This is Finnish blue-burmese mouse page. And this is silver-agouti page.

I'll repair my answer now.

In the picture where is 2 mice, they aren't silver agoutis, some ticked yes but not silver agoutis, maybe blue version of beige-agouti examle. In the lower picture's mouse maybe lilac-burmese [I asked those colors Finnish mousegenetic-expert :D ].

The non-ticked silver agouti I am pretty sure isn't a blue Burmese. I have a blue Burmese male who is a very different colour from her - it's darker and pointed, where she is not pointed at all.

All of these girls are mothers now, so I guess in a generation or two I will be able to answer confidently what they are ... can't wait for these babies to get fur!

I would really doubt that they're diluted beige-agoutis, since the "silver agouti" gene in my mice acts as a single recessive, and I don't get any other colours out of that line.

The unticked female might be something more interesting, but the ticked female, I would be absolutely shocked if she's anything other than a A- cchcch mouse.

Huh, I think my snake just ate her cousins Uncle's Aunt's Kid's identical twin's twice removed Uncle last night.

Very nice mice, thanks for sharing.
