Well my snake is missing. I had not noticed her in her viv for 2 days so I opened it up and found she was gone. We tore the viv apart. She is not there. We searched the room she was in and the room next to it and have not found her. I didnt look everywhere I would like so so we will go through those 2 rooms again and then, will build bottle traps. I have a question about those bottle traps. Would mouse litter work as well as a dead mouse? Other than that, I plan on setting up a heatting pad and water and buying a newspaper to crinkle up everywhere. Wish me luck.. I really have no idea how she got out. Im pretty sure the viv was shut tight..

Best of luck. I'd go for the real thing, and not just the stinky bedding for bait. Maybe a trail of stinky bedding leading to the bottle-trap would be a good idea. :shrugs:

Oh noes, i hope you find her.
If your sure the viv was closed then maybe she squeezed out a tiny gap which looked impossible :(
Good Luck in finding her

Thanks.. Im worried but hopeful she will turn up. I bought some flour too which I am real excited about. Narrowing down a room would allow me to focus traps there or at least redouble my search efforts. I have some blue painter tape I can use if the traps dont work either.
The viv she is in seems airtight but I do own another 20 I have leapord geckos in. I can swap her out for their viv. The lid on the viv she escaped from is built on. They dont try to escape so if I find her, it wont happen again.

Good thinking :)
Im sure if you keep at it you will find her, you often hear stories of lost snakes turning up weeks after they escaped. So don't give up hope! I bet shes somewhere you least expect like an old shoe or sumit :)
I really hope she turns up

Well,, no snake yet.. No tracks in the flour either. I am switching to a sand as I dont think the flour is good for my bagless vacuem. I am going to lay out bottle caps with water all over tonight as that is a worry. I tore apart my closet and half my room and dont think she is in there. She will probably just slink there later tonight now that I searched it. I have a 700 sq ft apt. I made 8 traps. I really cant stick 8 mice in each trap every day. so I am waitting for evidence of a snake in a specific room before I use real bait. I have dirty rodent litter for now. She has shown interest in dirty litter when I have held her so I am hopeing for the best. Question, Is the bottle trap useless if she doesnt eat something or will she find it difficult to find a way out without eatting? I found a post that suggests that the snake cant get out of a bottle trap due to the food lump... I have painters tape but have not used it yet... Is this a good idea? I have not found much on it searching and am not sure of the method.

YAY,, I found her.. I checked a drawer and there she was. ( I had checked it 3 times before too!) Just sitten there. I uncovered her and showed her my hand. She took a sniff and started to slink away. I picked her up and that was that. Now we are off to petsmart to get a new lid!

Well, after I caught her, I gave her water. She drank a bit and then, we were off to petsmart. I took her in to buy a new top and they were out. I don't even know if the associates I talked to even realized I was holding her. They should have more today so I will call when I get off of work. (sans snake) I am going to feed her tonight once everything is back to normal.
I put her in her Viv and used the painter tape to make sure she wouldn't get out. The top on her 20 is a sliding design that actually locks. It was made for snakes. I bought it used at a local reptile store. They were getting rid of all their 20 longs. I suspect that I just didn't shut it enough. Since I'm not sure, I still plan on getting a new top.

My vivs all have those sliding snap-lock tops. I always pull back on them after I hear the click to make sure they really are latched.

Do you mean the critter cage sliding lids? They have two latches in the back and a littleplace for a lock in the front. Those are the ones, right? Well what I do is I use a paper clip as a "lock" in that little hole in the front of the lid. you can not get the lid open with the paper clip in there, so that helps me, at least, feel like the snakes are more secure.

The whole big thing about petco and petsmart is that you're supposed to be able to take your pets in.
Although they generally want them contained >_>

The sliding lid of my viv is held closed by a plastic pin, which still allows it to slide open about 1/4". I added stick-on Velcro closures on both corners and now it won't move at all.

This looks a lot like what I have. Perhaps I should give it a second chance? If I do, Ill try the paperclip through that locking hole. (I will use a nail though) Im going to keep painter tapeing her in for now.

That's what's on all mine. I slide the lid in, wiggle it side to side to make sure it's in the tracks, click the latch, then pull back to make sure it's locked.
Wouldn't you have seen if yours was slid back???

I would think so but then, How did she get out. If it wasnt closed, the hole would have been very small but as I understand it, thats all that is needed. She is 33 inches long right now...not too think so..
