You should be fine until you get an UTH but I was reading you other posts and one stated...........

"what im trying to do is simulate higher temps during a normal day ie noon ect
my tank with every thing on is 85 like said above with it all on.."

And it seem to me that you should have your basic's down first before exploring that all. KISS.

yeah i think i got ahead of my self i'm ex army pretty confident guy LOL maybe a little too... :puke01:

Did I misunderstand from your other post? I thought you said you had a UTH and once you put the prob under the substrate on the uth the temp got to about 118? All you need is the UTH with the rheostat. Once you get the temp regulated you won't need any of the lights. Corn snakes don't need extra lighting for thier health. If you want a light so you can see your snake better, I'd go with a very low watt bulb that won't put out much heat at all. But that's just my opinion. Good luck in whatever you decide.

I agree with snakemom, put the rheostat on the UTH and get the UTH temp on glass to 85.

What kind of thermostat are you getting?

i tryed the uth and the retro and it got up to 88 degree's it also was thinking about climbing :( the lights even went up to 88 also with just the light on all day.

i guess if he needed to be cooler he could move to the cool side though right???

Unfortunately the ZooMed Rheostat, as others have reported, is not a very good rheostat. It doesn't dial down to get the temps low enough.

I've had luck with the WalMart lamp dimmer for $9 as well as the home made one described in the thread here on the site. Both work quite well for regulating a UTH for corn snakes. Of course a thermostat is always better.
