ps do you guys put news paper down under your substrate?

To keep the cords against the wall I simply tape them down. I start by taping the probe to the floor of the tank were I want, and then just keep adding overlapping pieces untill I hit the top of the cage. i've heard that it is better to use painter's tape so that if it comes of the wall the adhesive won't get really stuck to your snake and harm it. I use duck tape, despite the fact that that is not the perfered method, but I just check it whenever I glance in at the cage to make sure the duck tape is not pealing off. That's just how I do it, but I think there are other, cleaner looking ways.

As for newspaper under the substrate, I don't and I don't think it is really common to do that, bet there is no harm in putting some news paper down on the bottom.

I'd avoid the tape as the snake can get caught in it if it starts to peel away from the glass for some reason. I just leave the wires dangling in the cage (I do try to straighten them out and keep them up against the glass for the most part)--the snake doesn't seem to have any trouble with them. I like that cable wrap thing, though.

I agree, the tape thing isn't good, but I wanted to keep the cables out of the way, and when i was checking it regularly I thought this would work and be safe for the moment, but I have been wanting to find something else :shrugs: . Thanks for the ideas. I will try both and see what works for me.

Another thing I've done is to put the wires behind a vertical patch of plastic vegetation running up the side of the tank. The wires aren't unsightly because they're behind the fake leaves, and for the snake the wires are just part of a mess of stuff she climbs up and down. You can also pin the wires and probes in place by putting the edges of hides, or other tank furniture, on them. All of this is intended to help avoid using tape, and although my snake is still fairly small, she hasn't really dislodged probes or anything, despite the fact that the wires aren't tied down.

I don't know about the cords, but I use a single layer of paper towel under my aspen...makes it a breeze when it's time for a full bedding change. Just grab the corners and pull it all out at once with little spillage!

Braiding the cords together might work too. Personally, I thread the temp prob and thermostat probe through a suction cut which goes on the side of the tank.

i wrap fake plants around them. they look good and also, the snake cant get at them if you wrap well enough.
