Anyone know anything about albino cornsnakes?

its not like im paying for the electricity:p but dont they need UV for their metabolizism?

...no....
Corns don't really need lights. We mainly need to care for the snakes!

I *think* what Lenny meant is that our concern should be for the snake, and not whatever we think makes the tank look good (like lighting for example)
Just as long as your snake isn't in a dark desolate room it will still be getting it's daily cycle of day and night.

my concern is the snake, thats why im asking:| when we bought the snake, the petstore told us we needed to have a UV light on it for 12 hours so they can get the UV rays. and then we just bought a corn snake book that said that albinos dont need it so we were trying to figure out if we should take the light away

You can take the light away, your corn doesn't need it.

Consider your snake is active at dusk and dawn and sleeps, well hidden, during the light of day. So even in their natural habitat, UV rays pay no real benefit to their survival.

Hi.what tula is saying is you dont need lights all you have to do is provide the right care such as correct temps, fresh water, clean home and right sized food to be fed each number of days depending on the size of the snake and the snake will be happy and perfectly healthy. :) :)

I think the pet store were trying to screw some more money out of you...

It's a possibility. Either the pet store isn't very knowledgable and gives out the same advice for all reptiles (lizards do tend to need UV), or they were deliberately misleading you to get more cash. I'd like to assume the former. :)

Not only is UV unnecessary for Corns, there's some thought that it may be harmful for those morphs lacking darker colors e.g. Snows. It's like putting a red-headed person out in the nidday sun without any sunblock. This is unproven as far as I know, but I have a contact on a UK forum who has run a reptile rescue for some years. She seems to think that exposure to artificial UV lights by previous owners, has caused blindness in some of the Corns handed to her.

Given that a) they don't need it and b) there's some anecdotal evidence that it may cause harm, I'd advise switching off the UV as soon as possible.

i dont think they were trying to screw us over for more money, i think they were just stupid!!! they didnt even know they had the snake when we bought him. and there wasnt that many other snakes there for them to keep track of. and we asked when the last time he ate was and they had no idea! *sigh*

I personally wouldn't go there again. Any decent petshop/breeder has full records. If they didn't know they had the snake it is likely it was not properly cared for. Thankfully you are able to give him/her a proper loving home. ;)

we got him from petco, its kind of national:p i didnt like petco before that and i try to avoid it as much as possible!!! but sometimes it is hard to do

I would report it to their HQ. That amount of lack of knowledge is harmful to the livestock.

:angry01: Damn Nationals!
