Quick question bout substrates.

I done extensive research and I know what can and cannot be used for substrates. But I was wondering bout newspapers. I know they can be used but, do you/can you shred them or have u got to just keep them in full sheets. I am buying the proper stuff from the pet store and its $35 a bag. And the bag isnt' all the big. I have a 40 gal tank so it takes a lot to cover it. And the pet shop is bout 2 hrs <both ways> from me so there may be times I may run out. And will ahve to resort to paper towels or newspapers. So just wondering what would be best. Tks

It would be a full sheet of either one, newspaper or paper towels. Not shredded.

If the pet shop is two hours away, couldn't you mail order it and probably pay way less, too?

Tks Nanci,
I wanted to make sure. And as fer mail order, I live on a island so its way more expensive for shipping then anywhere else. One of the disadvantages of living in paradise. lol
