Another quick question......

As i prevesoulsy stated, I have a heat lamp for my tank. Now i got my temps regulated and etc. I have the infrared 100 watt bulb for heating. Now my questions is...... How long do those bulbs usually last. They have to be on for 24/7 and i live 2 hrs <both ways> from the pet shop so I cna't just get one when i needs one. So can anyone tell me how long they usually last before they give out. Tks

Well on the box they generally tend to say how long they're supposed to last. But since I don't use those bulbs I don't know how long they actually last sorry :shrugs:

I'm afraid to say as I don't need a Murphy curse. Usually mine last about 3-4 months. When they go they seem to all go at once. Also be very careful when you buy them make sure they are good, I can't tell you how many I have gotten to register taken out to check and they are broken. Also for whatever reason in the summer I go thru more, I don't leave them on during the day and also not at night on the hot-hot days. One store told me turning them off and on excessivly is hard on them???? hope this helps susan

Thank you so much susang. I am better off buy a few just in case. They are $11.99 each here. As for turning them off durning the summer months.... hard to say. Where i live isnt' hot like lots of places. lol Our heatwaves are bout 29 - 32 celcus. lol yup i am serious. To us that is HOT. but ..... lol

I'm a northern Canadian, I melt at +30.

If you're worried about bulbs burning out, know that you can use regular house hold bulbs. They don't shine a nice spot beam like the basking bulbs but if they are in a reflective can they direct the light and heat to make a nice basking spot. I you may have to try a few different wattage of bulbs to find the right heat level. I think clear bulbs put out more heat than the white frosty ones but I'm not sure.

:shrugs: I knew if I said something about how long lights last Murphy would strike, one yesterday, one today!!!!!

If your bulb is controlled by a thermostat, you can use normal bulbs if the heatlamp bulb blows and you can't get a replacement quickly. We found the heatlamp bulbs were heating our gecko viv too high unless it was off more than on, but by experimenting I had a stroke of luck...the ultra-cheap 15 watt red bulbs sold for old-fashioned electric fires (the kind with light-up coals) work much better in the viv!
