nice set up where did you find the lid for that sweet cage?..is that just a regular 10 gallon? my lid wont stay on so i sorta need a good lid lol...again very nice set up and a very pretty corn:D

Tks scorch, that is a 40 gal tank. looks smaller cause i had to shrink the pic to post in here. lol. The tank and screen was bought in ontario, cananda. I bought it of someone after his snake died. so other then that got no info. but most pet stores here <Newfoundland> have those screens.

okay...and yet again nice set up..i will have to look around for ojne of those lids..i have a 10 gal right now for when s/h is little(have not got him yet but soon will) and then move up in size later on....:D

that was what i was gonna do also. but i was told that if you have lots of hides <i have 5> that it dont' matter the size. it was cheaper to do it this way then to go from small to big.

Nice setup!
I need to upgrade my size (I did the small tank first, also).

Q: Is the lid metal?
Q: Does the lamp get the lid very hot?

My only concern is with the snake crawling around the top. I don't want it to get burned. :realhot: When Nibblet was a hatchling, she STAYED up there. And I read somewhere on this forum that a snake will foresake comfort for security. Also it may not realize it's getting burned until the damage is done. :uhoh:

I use a lamp, also. I have it on a stand so it doesn't touch the screen.

I have a couple of the critter cages. The screens are metal set into a plastic slide-in frames. It's sufficient for keeping a snake in, but sort of flimsy for resting a big heat-lamp on. I mean, the lid will hold it, but the constant flexing when taking it on and off must reduce the longevity of the lid.

I bought a couple of the metal-framed screen tops for regular tanks to put over top of my criter cages. Just about any pet store that has reptile supplies sells these lids, in various sizes. I simply take the lid and place it over the top of the critter-cage (with its own screen lid in place, too). This does two things - 1) it prevents the critter cage's own screen from sliding out, and 2) it puts a more durable screen on top of the critter cage screen. There is about an 1/8 gap between the critter cage's screen and the add-on screen. This way, the add-on screen takes all the wear and tear from the lamp, and it produced a small gap to keep the light from making contact with the critter cage screen which the snake can also contact.

To be honest, the screen doesn't get that hot. the tank looks smaller in the pic cause i reduced the size but the light is actually a nice ways away from the side. And i puts my hand on it and its not that hot. tks for the concern and the tips though

lol just looked at the pic again, and where the lamp is to in the pic isnt' where it usually is. my wife moved it over a bit cause she thought i was over to far. lol i took the pic before i noticed it. i moved it back in place after. its not that close the the edge.

Cool setup. Hey when you decide to get the little guy out a little more get a shot of him in your hand so we can see him better :) Thats definatley the penthouse suite :grin01:

LOL excellent! Be warned corns are addictive, the flood gates are now open...i hope you warned your wife that you will soon have a room full of snakes hahaha :grin01:

Yeah, but it's a BABY snake, and women love babies, so the snake will soon convince your wife that more babies would be a good thing!

Set up looks great, BTW.
