I have a 55 gallon tank and wanted to split it between two snakes whats the best way to divid it?....i was thinking of putting a screen but would it still stress the snakes out if they saw eachother right next to them?.....got any other idea please let me know....thanka all

Can't you silicone a piece of glass in between? I don't think it matters that they can see each other. They are going to know the other one is there any way. You can stick vines on the glass to visually separate them.

if I would make a track on both sides of the tank and slid a piece of screen in between would that be good?....cuz in the future I may combind the tank again

I think that would be ok. Will the two snakes be the same species, roughly the same size?

A easy, quickly reversible, method of dividing glass aquariua is to use a sheet of the plastic used for kitchen light diffusers (available at Home Depot), aquarium cement, and and slip on report binder clips. Cut everything to fit (use a box cutter or exacto knife to score the plastic), glue the clips vertically on the inside of the aquarium, slip in the sized plastic, and you have a neatly divided tank. :wavey:

that's a good idea....can I use rubber cement for the clips?....and is it easy to get off if I need to undivid the tank in the furture

Rubber cement is a little harder to work with. Aquarium cement (for repairing old aquaria) is non-toxic and easy to peel off when you want to undivide the tank. The beauty of the binder slide-clips is you can leave them in place, in case you want to redivide the tankin the future.

I used a piece of plywood with 3/4" molding tacked to the bottom of each side. I cut the wood to precisely fit inside the tank and used a rubber mallet to tap it into place, it ain't going nowhere! Coated it with a waterborne polyurethane to make clean up easy. Works for me.

This is exactly what I did with a 110 gallon tank. I wanted a nice display viv for a couple of our Kingsnakes so I separated it in two by siliconing a piece of Lexan in the middle creating two 55 gallon vivs. I thought it worked rather nicely. I have placed a bunch of fake plants on either side to try to visually separate them but they know each other is there. Strange how snakes have a great sense of taste and smell huh? You will however need to put a heat mat on the bottom for both snakes. I found the best way was to place one at either end of the tank. After you separate it you might want to think about lying it on it's side as to create more of a surface area for them as they don't really need to climb. They would benefit from this is your standard 55 gallon tank is only 12" wide yet is 18" tall. ;) Here is a picture of our viv in question. Sorry for the quality of the picture as I try hard to post good clear photos but my camera didn't like me that night. On the left is "Ivy" 0.1 Albino Cali King, on the right is "Ivan" 1.0 MBK. Hope this helps.
