Not chicken or quail eggs, but other eggs?

Corny Noob

Proud Momma
Just wondering.
Shoot me down if this is a bad idea.
I have 22 birds as you see by my sig. Occasionally they shoot out a few duds or we just pull the eggs out anyways because we don't want them to have more babies.
Could I feed cockatiel eggs to my corn?

No reason not to. Cockatiel eggs are small enough that anything that can eat a large pinkie would have no problem swallowing it. The eggs are primarily protein and calcium, both of which are good for the snake. I hadn't thought of it, but I think I'll start snatching the duds my two hens keep laying. Like you, I don't want babies, so they have no nest box. That doesn't keep them from laying in the bottom of the cage.

What kind of cockatiels? I have a 1.0 Cinnamon Pearl split Whiteface (Birdbert), 0.1 Pearl Whiteface (Killa) and 0.1 Cinnamon Pearl Whiteface (Kaffe). These are the last ones I bred, ten years ago, out of parents I'd produced.

Well like I said we had no intention of them breeding.
And I've got 17 so...I'm not gonna list what numbers of what morphs.
But we have a lot of normal greys, some greys males het pearl, about 4 pearl females, a couple of het lutino, one pied lutino and a few that aren't light enough nor do they have the white face to be considered cinnamons but they do have very light grey bodies while still retaining the normal yellow face, but their mom was the pied lutino, so they're het for that obviously.

For those who have no idea what I'm talking about here's a pic of an egg:

The eggs all the way to the right are the cockatiel eggs.

Kinda hoping for more answers if anyone can give them. As if the birds knew my mom found a freshly laid egg for me today.

I have no experience with feeding eggs, but I wouldn't feed them myself. If the snakes are eating mice or rats or african rats, I'm not going to take chances with any other exotic foods.

I have never had cockatiel eggs available, but I have occasionally fed banty chicken eggs and quail eggs in the past. I never saw any problems other than kind of slimy, smelly snake poops. But you wouldn't be feeding them exclusively, so I don't expect it would be any problem. Make sure the eggs are pretty fresh and not rotted. Also, if they are washed too well, the odor may be removed enough that the snakes will refuse them. You may need to leave some scent on them.

I would use small birds eggs occasionally for my corns if fresh eggs were available to me free or cheap.

The egg was laid yesterday. I do not honestly know whether or not my mom washed it. But if there is feces on it I do plain to at least peal that off first.
And of course, as you mentioned these will not be a stable since it's only when the hens lay them.
Not to mention they're only as wide as a pink and 2/3 of the length, certainly nothing to really feed a corn on.

Oh and my mother put the egg in the fridge for me since I'm not home right now.
Will it be ok if I just let it sit out before giving it to her?

Well obviously if she doesn't it's no skin off of my teeth.
But it would be a convient solution for all those damn cockatiel eggs :grin01:
Thanks for your help.
