New Lee Abbotts Okeetee Female

Purchased our fourth corn snake last weekend at a reptile show. My last Okeetee turned out to be a male so hope this is a female like it was labeled.

The feeding card totaled 30 pinks since last August which seems like a lot for a snake to be 15 inches but only 14 grams. I'm sure it had its biggest meal tonight. I really believe the size of the food item is so very important with what we have learned over the last year.

Just wondered what everybody thinks about the size for a snake of that age?

Also do the breeders just feed them enough to get by without adding a lot of size? :shrugs:

15g? I have a little runt from 06 who fasted for 6 weeks, was force fed for 4 months and didn't start growing until january. He's now over double that weight. He's now had 32 meals, 13 force feed and 19 self served. Two weeks ago he was 34g.

That snake seems VERY small for its age.I bought my snake last Sept.,so I believe she was hatched in Aug.,because of her size.
Now,she is about 26" long and has a good girth.I have a gram scale, but haven't attempted to try to weigh her.Snakes hold still long enough to be weighed ?? :eek1:

That seems to be the norm , they feed as little as possible to keep them alive but not enough for them to grow much.

That's why I prefer getting new hatchlings soon after they are hatched.
My 06 female Okeetee from Kathy Love which I got late June is now 136g.
06 female Blizzard from the Oct NARBC show is now 96g.
1.1 06 Silver Queen ghosts purchased in march were 21g and 27g.
Big difference there. they are now about double the size they were when I got them.

Thanks everyone for the info!

The snake ate a 3+ gram peach fuzzy yesterday. Thuoght maybe I had fed too large a meal but after 30 hours all is well so far.

It ate like it was starved!

I usually weigh our snakes every two months so it will be interesting to see how much she gains with the proper amount of food.

Wow, I weigh my snakes at least twice a month. Sometimes weekly! Hope she grows well for you. Probably will now with personal attention.
