Power feeding?

I had a quick question. I was wondering this for a little while but have always forgotten to ask. When people speak of feeding their corn snakes quickly to build up size, it doesn't mean the snake will grow to a larger size does it? Hmm maybe rephrase that question. Snakes a pretty much predetermined to grow to a certain length and general weight right? Similar to how feeding a child more when he is young will not make him taller as he grows older. Is the only reason to power feed to get to a breedable size as quickly as possible?

Technically that would be the only reason I could see to powerfeed. The problem is in defining what is/isn't powerfeeding! :shrugs: 4 years ago when I first joined this site, 3 and 4 day feeding schedules for hatchlings was frowned upon . . . now it's a 'norm' of sorts.

And yes, there is a generally a pre-determined length different species of snakes will reach. Obviously there is great variability within that norm, but powerfeeding is not going to cause them to reach beyond that length.

feeding

I have a female anery that i got when it was just over a month old and i fed her weekly and just been making sure the food is the appropriate size. and she is growing like a weed and has prolly doubled in length and over tripled in weight in the last 5 months.

Then there is my male who is the same age but i got him at 7 months old and he was on a maintenance diet and not much bigger than a hatchling and a pinky still made a good sized lump. not i have been feeding him pinkies every tues and sat and he is starting to slightly get bigger in the month i have had him but about 1-2 inches and prolly just a little heavier (no scale yet to know for sure).

I have heard stories of people power feeding a snake its whole life and their corns reaching 6 foot or more but i think this is very rare and seems unreasonable.

I see very little benefit in the long run to trying to get a bigger over all snake, but power feeding does seem to have an effect on how fast hatchlings/yearlings get to a breedable size.
