Up all night
I know there have been other threads on this subject but they didn't quite answer the questions I have. So I checked my temps today and the hot side was 84 and the cool side (ambient) was 81 (because its hot out and I don't have AC). With these warmer summer temperatures there will pretty much be no heat gradient in the tank will that be ok? I use the Repti-therm 500R and its the on/off kind, should I unplug it on the hot days or just leave it since it probably just wont turn on if its that warm? Thanks ;)

p.s the hottest it gets around here is in the 90's and thats rare.

A large enough water dish for the snake to enter will provide the necessary gradiant for those really hot days. and it's alright to leave the heat pad on, as you said, the thermostat will just turn it off if it's to hot.
 
My daytime temps are in the low 80's now- what are you going to do? (I can't afford to run the AC all day and the best it can do anyway, due to inefficient insulation/no shade is keep it 5 or so degrees less than the outside temps) I watch and have the AC on to keep it from going over 85. No one seems to mind. At night the cool side temps drop into the mid to low 70's.

You guys have it easy. It has been in the low 90's out here for the past week and a half...

Nightime drops will help to provide the much needed gradients. As long as your tank/enclosure isn't reaching into the 90's consistantly and for extended periods, your snakes should be fine...
 
I meant my indoor temps- I hope your indoor temps aren't in the 90's yet Chris!

Our outdoor temps are mid-upper 80's, dropping to upper 50's low 60's at night.
