Does anyone have a exoterra reptile den?

6" x 11" x 4"H, opening is 1 14" x 1 12"H.

If so does anyone have the largest size avaliable? I'm wondering what the pracitcallity would be in purchasing this. Meaning I want to know if this product the large size would still be big enough for an adult corn to get into.

I have seen some nasty injuries to snakes tails and backs because of those things. The magnets are strong enough to "snap" together, and if a piece of your snake is in the way...forget about it...damage is done.

I refuse to sell them in the pet store I work at...

My corn snake loves them. Its his favorite hide. And yes, they are dangerous. I am thinking about taking the hot glue gun and making it safer.

The level of practicality is zero. No offense, but I think it's strange that you think it stinks that a snake's value increases as you pour more resources into it, but you'd consider purchasing overpriced junk like this. You can throw a piece of cardboard in your snake's enclosure, and they'll probably like it better. Not aesthetically pleasing enough? Lean a flat piece of aquarium slate on a couple of rocks. :shrugs:

Well I never said I would even pay full price for stuff like this I agree that it's a freaking rip off, I just thought the cave tunnel idea was interesting.
No need to get on my case about it.

I purchased two large ones from my local pet store for 10 dollars each. :) Great price. My snake really does love it. I love being able to open the side and check up on Mr. Icky at any time. Even the large size its sorta small.

Not worth the 50+ dollars.

The only drawback is the possibility of his tail being crushed. I am very careful though everytime i close it.

Please be very careful. I have seen some incredible damage suffered because of the power of those magnets, and would hate to see you posting a question of how to fix your snakes back if it got broken in there...and broken bones happen from those things.

I agree with Dean on this, most of your snakes do not care the type of hide they have as long as they have one. Heck here is a prime example of a different type of hide. Here is my Cal King Set on his hide, like a dragon perched on a Castle. Go cheap and don't spend to much money on a hide for you snake.

Those hides in particular aren't a good idea, as I agree they aren't practical for snakes, but if manmade hides she buys suit the needs of her snakes, why shouldn't she spend however much she likes? It's her choice. :)

I have a medium sized one of these for my corn and she loves it! I can never get her out of it! They are pretty annoying to use though, and because of the thick bottom it doesnt get as warm as I would like in there. If you place it on the bottom of your tank and push the substrate in very tight around it to keep it close to the side, you don't have the worry of trapping tails and such. Its really nice to beable to peal it back a little and check on your snake without bothering them to much, and because of the two layers if they want to cool off a little they can. In saying this, it wont be much longer now until she grows out of it and I wont be buying another.

I am one of those people that will pay over priced prices for nice looking things, if you can afford it why not? Im actually really pleased with the current look of my viv.

I didn't really mean to get on your case. I saw you complaining in one thread about breeders trying to recoup their losses when pricing adult snakes, then I see you considering the purchase of an expensive lump of plastic in this thread and I felt like commenting about it. No big deal. I guess we agree that the retail price of this stuff is a rip-off. :)

I think you missed my point, Becks. If people want to buy gem-encrusted platinum hides for their snakes, or $50 lumps of hollow plastic, I couldn't care less. :)

I think its extremely silly to have half the hide on the outside of the tank... Is that not a complete waste?

I use exo terra caves for some of the corns, they are great wee hides.

Corny Noob, If you are indeed looking for the cheapest hides to offset breeding costs, there are quite a few easy ways to go.

Toilet paper rolls for hatchlings, they love them. I save papertowel rolls for bigger snakes. And then whatever odd and end cardboard containers I can find around the house. Bill my Blizzard has a tissue box with a whole cut out of it. Not only does he spend alot of time inside, but he loves laying on top of it. Estefani my Miami has a old ziplock bag box. Yeah, they can get wet and ruined, but then just throw them away and replace them.

Also, those trays that go under pot plants are an easy way to go. Very cheap as well.

None of these are aesthetically pleasing, so if you want something like that but still cheap, you can buy a pot for plants and break a hole out of it.

you would put half on the warm and half on the cold side

In the picture posted he has half inside the tank and half OUTside....rendering the half outside useless.

I guess I misunderstood your post, Dean. I thought people were telling her not to spend money on hides because it's not worth it. :shrugs: Ah well...

The E-T caves are pretty great. I use them for all my snakes, and intend to buy them for my future acquisitions as well. I'm also fond of the snake caves (the ones which are like a hollow rock.) Connor loves his.

This is one of Peek a boo's Hides and she loves it. I got it at a pet shop. and it was rather alot. 18$ dollers. they make biggers ones and there alot cheaper at a reptile shop. but here it is. easy to clean and the top is a bit light and it has a rim around it so she cant push it over on to her tail if she in or outside of it.

I bought a huge one of those things...not the kind that snaps together with magnets, but the kind that you push up against the side of the aquarium. It looks nice, but it sucks for snakes. Now it's in a box in a dark closet, where it will stay until I either give it away or decide to get some kind of lizard or other critter that can use it. That was the first and last piece of expensive junk I bought for cornsnakes. Now I use empty kleenex boxes, toilet paper tubes, paper towel tubes, other small cardboard hides, and Gladware. I've also thought about buying hides that are meant for fish tanks. The ones that look like barrels and stuff. Although I'd probably use those for lizards too and not cornsnakes.
