Quick question bout shedding....

Ok. I have read all the threads on shedding and was just wondering..... It said if they are having troubles one thing you can do to help or to get left of skin off is to let them crawl thru a wet towel. Ok so my question is............

1)Do I put the towel in then the snake or do i put the towel on top of the snake?

2) Do I ball up the towel or just lay it flat?

3) Do I put the towel and the snake in a big container or small container?

Wanna know in case Anubis haves some troubles so I can be ready for it and not have to wait for responses. lol Sorry all but I like to know before hand. lol Tks for all the advice I know I will get from this awesome site.

I use the towel in my hands. I had to get stuck shed off my cornsnake once, and I dampened some paper towel, then got the corn out of his tank and let him slither through the towel which I was holding. Others report success with putting the snake and towel in a container. I wouldn't do it in the main tank though, as the snake will likely just nip back off in to his hide. ;)

moist hides work when they are in blue. some of mine will go back in there moist hide after they shed for a day or two then they forget about it. If they do have an incomplete shed just wet a towel an put it around your snake(in your hand ) an let it slide through your hands an the towel. Apply a little pressure to the towel an the shed should finish coming off.

I just did the wet towel thing with Zee. I went to get him out- he hadn't shed, but since I'd disturbed him anyway, I thought I'd see if he'd eat. He was clear, and had a rip in his shed near the tail, but the rest, including the nose, was firmly attached. He didn't eat, (and he's not the best shedder) so I took a washcloth, put it in his feeding bin, put in about half an inch of room temp water (not enough to be over his head) and popped him in. Next time I checked, he'd shed in one piece. And still wouldn't eat.

tks for the tips everyone. really appreciate it. hopefully i wont have any troubles with Anubis but its better to be safe then sorry. tks again all.

Anubis still hasn't shed yet. And I haven't even seen him since Sunday morning. Is this normal. Do they stay hidden under the substrate until they are ready to shed? Or should I be getting nervous.

Normal!!! Stop worrying! Didn't I predict Thursday as the day he would shed? And I wouldn't be so surprised if he went two or three days beyond that. It'll be ok!

well ur snake is the one who's nervous that's why its hiding all 3 of my snakes are in blue and all 3 are in their hides. I have a gost motley and its almost imposible to tell when she is going in blue bt at this time she just tryes to bite me so I know she's in blue.

Tks for the replies. Hopefully he soon sheds. I miss watchin him slither around his tank at nite. He hasnt even been using his hides. He keeps himself burried under his substrate. Even when I was spot cleaning on tuesday I didnt' see him. I have a moist hide made for him. And the humitidy is around 60% so hopefully won't have any problems. Tks again.

Hehe I know I'm going to be a little nervous for Nagini's first thred but you're thinking about this waaay too hard.

LOL yea i know. But this is my first snake and VERY EXPENSIVE so I wants to make sure everything is ok. My wife keeps sayin she wishes I would show her as much attention as I gives Anubis. lol

Yeah I know I'm obsessing too.
All my mom keeps saying is "seems like an awful lot of work for a pet..."

LOL PFFFT what do they know eh. lol My fish and cat are a lot more work. The cat is also more annoying but diff topic. LMAO

I noticed Anubis was clear last nite. So guess he well be shedding very soon. Wasn't anything in tank tis morning so hopefully I will get to watch. Also I havent' fed him yet so should I wait until he is shed or can I feed him tonite. He is past his 5 day feeding schedule. I was gonna feed him last nite now that he is cleared up but was afraid to. He dont' move a muscle after he eats so didnt' know if it would hinder his shed or what.

Well in ma case mines eat when they are in blue with out no troble bt all snakes are different others might not eat in this stage bt its worth the try

So if i feed him tonite and he is ready to shed later tonite it wont hinder the shed process?
