Temp of freezer for keeping mice for a long time?

Hi, What is the optimal temp of a freezer to keep mice in freezer locked zipped packaging for the longest time possible? What is that MAX temp i should keep them? Thanks.

Yeah. :p But is 20 degrees better than 30? Is 10 degres better than 20? is 0 bad? Colder the better = longer able to keep mice? Or??

If you want them to last longer, vacuum seal them. Barring that, use air tight tupperware containers.

When I have the time I vacuum seal all of the frozen mice and rats in single serving bags. Or else in 5 count bags.

Vacuum sealed mice and rats should last at least 2 years.

Like Flagg, I too vacuum seal my frozen mice.

Instead of single serving bags (though I do have a few of those), I’ll throw a bunch into a single large bag (say quart size). When the time comes, I’ll cut the top of the bag off just past the previous heat seal, take out what I need and reseal the same bag, it saves a lot of time and bags.

Regards,
Steve

My sealer uses cheaper commercial bags, they cost about 1/20 the price of Foodsaver type bags, so I don't mind wasting them when they cost about $.02 each.
In fact I just ordered a case of 4x6 bags to I don't have to cut up larger bags.

Not when you have 165 dollars worth of mice that should last you a year. :)

$165 worth of mice is nothing. That's not even 1/4 of my orders. Trust me, you're overthinking it. They're mice. It's a freezer. Doesn't your freezer keep your food cold enough to eat in the future?

I've had pinky mice get freezer burn, but thawing them in water will re-hydrate any dry spots. it's perfectly healthy anyway.

Just got them today, perfect size for a single mouse or ASF rat.

It was $23.50 shipped for 2000 4x6 bags, so that's about 1.2 cents per bag. These are commercial type bags and will NOT work in a Foodsaver type sealer.

You'll have to email or phone them to set up an account, it's not really geared towards web sales. But their prices are FAR lower than any online source I have found for vacuum pouches. Most sources I've found want about 4-5 cents per pouch plus shipping.

This is the sealer I use

I'm pretty sure that any temp below freezing will be fine. cooler isnt always beter/ in fact, it might actuall give said mice freezer burn. as log as you remove the air fron the bag, you should be fine.
