Cages of Layouts or plans you made.(Multiple unit cages)

I'm looking for a Multiple Unit cage to make out of wood. I know there are allot of very nice builders on here that make there own Cages for there corn snakes and other snakes.

one thing i can make is a basic snake box witch i got off the site below along with all the other tank to make. but i do not have and can not get Flexwatt witch is used to heat all the cages. (i do now want to put lights in the tank or the snake can burn its self)

in what i was thinking about is making 3 box's putting sceens at the side for air and one sceen up too for a heat lamp. for each box.

the front would be a pull down glass door. or something

then making a book shelf looking thing putting one tank over the other. but putting wood between each one to hide the heat lamps from the front. and the back open.

this is the only thing i can come up with if anyone makes any cages please post them telling me how you made them and what you used thank you. :shrugs:

Don't really have any suggestions on how to build it but corns don't need heat lamps, they're not baskers.

The flexwatt would be better if you can order it online or see if a store would do it for you. It would probably save you room at the tops instead of having the lights there.

true just dont want to fry my snake or me making somthing out of flexwatt i have no clue how hot they get or how to do anything with it

See my sig for an idea. I believe it could easily be scaled up to a 4 unit one, or build two and stack on each other (though I'd secure them together somehow just to be safe

As for heating, why can you not obtain flexwatt? I would try and avoid a heat lamp as they can screw with humidity and make it too dry; may not be an issue if you monitor humidity levels, but that's just one more thing to worry about.

That website you linked to has flexwatt information. You just have to make sure and seal all of the connections to make the water proof if you use inside the tank (which I've done without any problems). You also have to use a rheostat or thermostat to control the temperature. If you do these two things, it's a breeze to use and is great.

Oh yeah, there are places that you can order it already wired up. All you'd have to do is seal the connections.

Off the top of my head, I'm not sure. I know it can get quite hot, but that's why you use a control device (as you should with ANY heating element). If you have a reliable way to control the heat, then it shouldn't really matter how hot it gets because it never will.

Before I put mine on a stat, I did a little test to see just how hot the 11" Flexwatt would get - it's rated at 20 watts per foot.

After running for two hours, it was sitting at 116°F, which in C, that should be 46.7, if I converted correctly. It should have been operating at pretty close to max temperature after two hours, but I'm not too sure.

Regardless of whether it would go hotter, 116° F is entirely too hot for a snake. The manufacturer of it also recommends that it not be regulated at a higher temperature than 95° F, as the heating strips in it will degrade more quickly than they should.

Wiring them is really simple (coming from an electrician), so if you need any help just let me know and I could probably guide you through it. :)

You can buy flexwatt at beanfarm.com, I ordered a roll of ten squares from there.
Check out my own 7 unit design in my signature. It cost about $350 CND. I'm not sure if it was the most cost efficient I could have got but my 20 gallon tank set-ups cost me about $120 each, $50 for a decent adult snake housing is pretty good.
