Quick question...

When the snakes shed, do they only get longer or do they gain a gram or so. May be a dumb question but was just wondering. I fed Anubis shortly after he shed so I didnt' do weighting or mearsuring. Didn't wanna disturb him. But am curious on it. lol tks all.

They are always growing longer and heavier. Shedding allows them to keep doing it. I had a shake grow from 320g to 400g with out shedding in-between.

I think I've read here that snakes may lose a small amount of weight while they are blue, due to missed feedings. I usually weigh the snakes right before I feed, so they are at their emptiest, without the weight of an undigested meal.

I weighted him the day before he shed and he gained 1 gram from the last time i weighted him. He is now 10 grams. Wanted to make sure what is weight was before he shed. After he finished digesting his meal I am gonna weight him again.

10 grams is pretty small. Is this just hatched? I've had hatchlings weigh more than that :) Are you sure your scale is accurate? Even my smallest lavender weighed 8 grams and he was much smaller than the rest of the hatchlings.

Just remember that snakes also lose the weight of the shed skin.
. . . and they also typically hold in a defecation that is released immediately after a shed. Hence, they will typically weigh more directly before a shed compared to directly after.

Will i tested my scale with a nickel and its off by one gram so Anubis is 11 grams. Hopefully he will start to put on a bit more weight with his 5 day feeding schedule.
