Hello guys, well, this will probably be the most important thread I make here, other then the threads I make about my little baby Damien, they are also very important, anyways, I'm loosing myself lol, back on track,
I have tried everything.. I can't loose Weight, ever since I was around 2 years old I began to get bigger and bigger, and well, bigger.. This is a Cornsnake forum, I know, but this is also a place were I feel comfortable talking about this, probably the only place I would go into detail about the whole situation on the internet, my point is, if you guys know of any way, the fastest way to loose weight, please please give me your suggestions, I have been on hundreds of diets, I have tried exercise, but at my weight, it's hard, my knee's start to hurt, and my back, and it's not pleasant, I know I'm posting this thread, just after I posted about me completing a high tree adventure course, but trust me, the blisters on my hands, and the pains in my legs and arms, well anyways, I have been to the doctors lots and diet people, everything, tomorrow I'm going back to the doctors, and I'm just going to put it straight to them, that my weight ATM is just too much.. yes it's my fault, but i never feel full :/

I would like suggestions please.

-George-

Hey George. I'm the last guy who should be giving you health advice. I ingest and inhale unhealthy substances, my diet is terrible, my lifestyle is too sedentary, and at very few points in my life have I been considered thin. But even I can see some problems with your perspective.

If you want to lose weight, you have to exercise and eat sensibly. There's really no other healthy way to do it. You say that you never feel full, but why would you want to feel full all the time? This sounds like you're admitting to over-eating. You could drink lots of water, and try to make your snacking healthier. If there are particularly unhealthy foods that you love, and that maybe your Mom buys special for you, you could ask her to stop buying them. When eating, try to keep in mind that your brain doesn't register a feeling of fullness for about twenty minutes after you eat, so eat sensible portions and wait for some time before eating something else.

As for exercise, you need to start slow with some walking. If you're not in shape, excercise is GUARANTEED to be painful. There's no way around it. And there's almost zero chance that you'll ever get down to a healthy weight without doing it.

Good luck, and I hope you and the doctor can come up with something that will work for you. You have one HUGE advantage on your side: youth. Get into some good habits now and you can carry them throughout your life. :)

Dean,
I would get off the Munson plan.. :) your not your snakes. :grin01:

George,
Start getting more active, get out and walk around and just be outside more than indoors. Eat more fish, less red meat, stay away from Sugar, especially Sodas. Those are the worse things that have ever been created by man. They are one of the number 1 thing that has made Americans fat, next to not getting enough exercise. Heck most peoples jobs any more is in the office and not moving around. So start moving around and drinking lots of water. :D

Thank you Roy, and all of you! : ) I'm really going to try! I need to! we don't buy chocolate anymore infact we seem to always have fruit! but my lack of exercise seems to be the main problem! :/

I just need try!

thanks! all of you.

I, like Dean, have absolutly no right giving anyone health advcie.

I binge brink bottles of vodka/malibu/beer (ok anything alcoholic) + takeaway almost every weekend. As well as 40+ fags.

I despise physical activities, but I know thats all anyone can do to lose weight. You have the biggest advantage in the world, a speedy metabolism. Why not try 30 min walks per day, take your camera and get into photography?!

I used to walk miles per day just to find new places/people to photograph. Now I live in the city, I take cabs EVERYWHERE (usually to the next pub).

Like Dean suggested, tell your mum to ration the food you adore, yet may not be doing you any favours. Why not go shopping with her each week and pick healthy options to snack on, ie dried fruit, cereal bars, nuts, seeds etc. It takes a LONG time to see any results, and weighing yourself every day is the worst thing you can possibly do.

George, Snacking is fine and so is fruit. If you google the Diabetic Diet, which is by far the best diet out there. It is mainly on restraint. Do not eat large portions, eat smaller ones and eat a snack between meals, such as an apple or banana.
Here is a link to sit down with your folks and go through. You are right baby steps is the right way to go. Do not go to fast but take it easy and try to remember its a life style change.

Thanks a lot tula, I stopped eating chocolate a few months ago I only rarely eat it, I stopped sugar totally a while ago, and I do eat as healthy as possible, but.. I really do not exercise! :/ I really need to try! I'm going to start slow, I'm going to set my MP3 player up, listen to some music, take the camera out, I just need to loose this weight, I'm very heavy, I'm really heavy, before I'm officially healthy, according to a few weighing things in my town, I have to loose 8 stone, witch seems forever away, but I think my goal will be 5 at first, then move on to bigger targets, it should be much easier when I'm a little lighter! i will be able to walk more and things!

No problem, one of the worst problems with being over weight is the ease of getting Diabetes, and George, I do not want to see you with that.
So this diet should help you and you know what, it may even help your parents as well and your other family members. Its a no nonsense lifestyle and it just learning food control.
Also what helps is making realistic goals for yourself such as maybe loosing 10 - 15 pounds by the end of the summer. Its all about baby steps.

And Elle, smoking and drinking, shame on you. ;) lol we all have been there. But I am afraid here in the states, if I stated that I smoked 40 + fags a week.. people would talk. lol

George, unless you are 18 stone, then you DO NOT need to lose 8 stone. One or two would be a HUGE achievement for anyone. I have seen you, and would never consider you morbidly obese.

HAHAH what can I say... I'm a bad girl! (who will be in the states this time tomorrow!). I fully intend to "smoke my fags" in the US!

Hey guys, thanks, I'm more then 18 Elle, :/ but I'm also 6ft.1 so maybe thats why i don't look it :/

I'll just have to take things slow, and hopefully things will improve : )

Edit I'm about 270-280 pounds I think, around the very very top end of 19, maybe 20, although 15 is what I'm aiming for, then 13, then after 13 I will still as low as I can! going to the doctors today, can't wait!

I am also probably not the person to give advice about losing weight. I am actually under the weight that I should be, and have a hard time putting it on. However my father is quite a bit overweight so I know that one day my hummingbird metabolism is going to slow way down so I am trying to get into healthy habits now. I think you'll find that once you start seeing results it will make you feel so good about yourself that you will really work harder to do it. I tend to be a bit lazy but after I started going to the gym I loved it! I got some alone time, listened to music, and felt really good about myself afterwards. You don't need any crazy diet you already know what you need to do, its just a matter of getting yourself to do it everyday until you like it. Good luck ;)

P.S: smoking fags!! I can't help but laugh every time I see that. Its hilariously offensive :grin01:

I, myself, am working on losing weight, so I'm right there with you, George! Here are some tips that have helped me!

Dont drink soda's. If you feel the NEED, drink clear sodas. Sprite, Sierra Mist, etc. The darker sodas have syrups in them that aid in the GAINING of weight, haha. Soda's are not healthy for you at all, but the clear soda's are at LEAST a some-what of a healthier choice. But Green Tea's, and Tea in general is a great choice! Always ask if they have tea, it's a great alternative to Soda's, and have just as much flavor. It will also help hydrate you, which will make you feel better.

If you feel the need for a sweet treat, fruits have a great source of natural sugars. Frozen Yogurt also has a lot less fat than ice cream, so it's a great alternative for a tastey treat. And just cutting back in general is easy. If you decide you want chocolate, eat 2-3 small pieces, rather than a whole bar. If you can learn to monitor your own intake, it'll be easier for you to stay on track!

Eating less carbs is a good way of slimming down, too. If you're having a hamburger, substitue a bun with 2 pieces of lettuce. Adds more flavor, and is healthier. Or, just have a bun-less burger. It make look strange, but it'll be better for you. You can still have all the toppings - tomatoes, and veggies are the best - you just might have to use a fork! Or crumble the burger over a nice salad. There are a ton of HEALTHY ways to spruce up the old favorites.

If you go to your local store, get a box of the zip-lock snack size bags. Not the sandwhich sizes, but the SNACK sizes. Take your favorite snacks, and portion them into those snack bags, They're a perfect amount so you dont eat TOO much, but you can still have a snack during the day. And they're easy to take with you on trips. You can portion them at the begining of the week, so it's easier to stick to it. Knocking all your favorite foods out of your diet is just going to make you crave them even more, so if you portion yourself, you can still eat what you want, but in a SMALLER amount.

As it was stated earlier, eating a healthy snack in between meals is also a good way to speed up your motabolism. Eating high protien foods is also a good way to speed it up. Eating 6 SMALL meals a day, rather than eating until you're stuffed 3 times a day is ALOT better for you. Just make sure you're eating healthy.

Start a food journal - write down everything you eat in a day. Even if it's just a piece of paper, and a pen that you carry in your pocket. Then review it at the end of the day. Write down what you eat, an estimate of how much, and if you want, write down the calories. This will help you realize how much you do actually consume. If I remember correctly, a person should only consume about 2thousand calories a day. So figure out how much you consume, and see where you can try and edit out some un-wanted/un-needec calories.

Oops. Got a bit ahead of myself.

Also, as suggested, exercise is KEY. Start out slowly, just take a few walks during the week. Early in the morning is my favorite time. It's quiet, it's cool, and you'll be pretty much un-distrupted. You mentioned an MP3 player, which is a GREAT motivation. Set all your favorite songs to a certain play list, and label it "Exercise" or "Walking List". Add up all the times of the songs, and make it equal 15 minutes. Then add more in a month or so to 30 minutes, and dont stop walking until that playlist is over. That way you dont feel like you're pushing yourself too fast, you can enjoy it with the music you love. Music always energizes me! It'll also keep your mind of the fact that you are actually exercising.

I hear swimming is one of the best weight-burning activities you can do, George. And if you hate running, I do hear that a brisk walk actually burns off more than a run, believe it or not ;)

I hate exercise. Most people I know do. :grin01: But have you considered something you might really enjoy? What about taking up horseriding or something? I ride and it's excellent. Your muscles will ache and that's fabulous because it means you've been using them :grin01:

I know it's also tempting to try and skip meals and eat less, but believe it or not you lose weight quicker if you eat healthy meals than if you eat nothing. You don't neccessarily need to cut back the frequency of food; just make alterations to what the food actually is.

Top two tips: Be patient, and don't be too hard on yourself. :)

Here's my two cents worth:

You can restrict your diet all you want, but really you need daily exercise. All it has to be is walking! Start with 30 minutes a day. If you could walk an hour a day- that would be wonderful! Do you have a bike? Cycling burns even more calories, and is way easier. This is the most important key to losing weight- you HAVE TO exercise every day. It doesn't have to be drastic, but it has to be every day.

Then, you have to learn how many calories are in food. There is really cool software called Calorie King. Then just avoid the really bad stuff, and eat more of the lower calorie stuff like broiled chicken and salads. Switch to non-fat milk. Stop drinking anything with sugar in it like sodas and juice. So, go on line and figure out what your ideal weight is for your height, and I believe Calorie King will tell you how many calories you need a day to lose weight down to that. You don't have to starve, just make better choices, and limit the really high calorie stuff, and keep a running total of what you've taken in through out the day. Read on packages what a "serving" is, and try to stick to it!
