Visited Lee Abbott Today

Took a little road trip south to visit Lee and to check out his collection, as well as pick up a couple snakes. Lee is a great down to earth guy and if you've ever talked to him at a show, he's a wealth of information. The best part of visiting outside of a show, is that there aren't a hundred other people trying to talk to him as well, lol. I got to see his workshop, and added some great ideas to my own workshop plans. It was also great to see his collection of wonderful animals, and still leave with only the two I went for :grin01: I don't have many left on my want list, but luckily he had exactly what I was looking for, the top two on my list of needs....

1) 1.0 Black Milk, as my female, (Ash), will need a mate...

Introducing Coal, 1.0 Black Milk...

Three years until he's totally black, the countdown begins...


2) Albino Tangerine Hondo. My Hondo's het Albino are siblings, so it'll be nice to have some fresh genes in the pool. With only four eggs laid, I'm not going to rely on luck that I'll produce one of my own this year...

Introducing Valencia, 0.1 Albino Honduran Milk...

These were taken under a table lamp with the flash, so her colors are really dull compaired to real life... I'll have to get some outside shots.... :grin01:


While in the area of a favorite reptile store, we couldn't not stop in for a look... I found a really nice, almost solid brown, 0.1 Chocolate Cali King, a perfect mate for Ziggy, (Aberrant Ruby-eyed Lavender het Chocolate), but she had the evil eye and quickly latched onto my pinky, drawing blood, and not wanting to let go! Ziggy is the same way, so I had to pass on the chance of producing Devil Spawn Cali's.... :crazy02: One attack snake is enough in this collection, I don't need two trying to eat me through their tubs as I walk by...

Wow, great snakes!! How cool to find the two snakes you wanted the most. Black Milks are cool. But the albino Hondo- she's really gorgeous. Nice aberrant bands!

Too bad about the Cali. Maybe it was just something in the air- Choco, my beloved Choco- tail rattled and struck at the glass yesterday! I've never, ever seen him do that. Actually, I haven't seen any snake (of mine) do that since I had a WC Bullsnake back in the 80's. I took him right out and he was like, what?

Congrats Joe! I can't wait to see someone post a really good progression thread on a black milk. Maybe you'll take up the challenge.

That albino Honduran is amazing. Those super-pale eyes kick butt! :cheers:

Thanks, Valencia has some more aberrant bands further down her tail too, and in real life you need sunglasses to look at her... The lady at the pet store said the "Chocolate is always... um... hungry.", which is code for biter I guess... :grin01:

Lol, I actually don't mind the attitude as my male Cali only has two switches, attack and sleep.... so I don't really need two.... of course I guess I could house them next to each other and let them wear each other out, making them too tired to attack me.... hmmmmmm.....

Thanks, what I noticed, and was confirmed by Lee, is that the Black Milks don't change after every shed, but between sheds they get just a little bit darker... I've been taking pics of Ash on a monthly basis for a progression thread, but the changes are so small, there really isn't much to see, other than the tipping getting slightly longer, and the red scales a little darker. I think the progression pics would have to be posted in 3 or 4 month intervals to see even the slightest changes. (That puts me at two pics so far). The problem also being that I wasn't posing Ash in the same place with the same lighting, so she looks different every time, just because of her aberrant pattern, not from noticable additional black. I might just have to pick a container and do the same shot every couple months with Coal, since his pattern is uniform... but once again, it will take me almost a year to get 3 pics to post of noticable change... So a progression thread is on the way, it's just going to take a looooong time to just get enough to start one, :grin01:

The hondo rocks! That may be the first snake I've seen that really looks like an albino!
