Sterilizing a wicker basket?

Any ideas on how to stereilize a wicker basket? I've had it for YEARS, and figured, since Mousetrap needs a new hide, it'd be perfect. I'm just not sure on how to clean it out. It's thin, and pretty old... probably not worth using, but I figure if I can get it clean, why not? So any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd think if it's not falling apart, boiling it for a few minutes then letting it dry completely would sterilize it. Atleast that is what I would do. So long as it's not a family herloom or an antique there's not much to loose?

How big is it? Is it painted and is the paint flaking off?

If there is no flaking paint, I would either boil it in a large stock pot if it will fit or bake it in the oven at 250 degrees for a couple of hours.

Regards,
Steve

Nope, not and heirloom, or painted. I'll try boiling it. I was going to do that, but I wasnt sure if wicker needed any special treatment.
