Temp/humidity ranges in my 10g tank

I received my new, trusty (?) thermo/hygrometer over the weekend and tried it on both the warm side and the cool side. On the warm side, the temp range has been hovering around 88F, and the humidity right at 40%. On the cool side (also where the water is), the temp is 78F with humidity near 60%.

Since Reggie seems to spend a pretty equal amount of time on each side, is misting or any other kind of 'forced' water interaction necessary, or would it be too much? Or will his first shed under my watch be the best indicator?

A secondary question would be about the 88 being a little too high given the ranges I've seen mentioned (usually topping out at 85). If so, I'm assuming a little extra substrate would help bring it down, or are there better methods? The temps were taken on top of the substrate (no it's not a probe thermometer as has been suggested), but he's only buried himself in the substrate once that I've seen, and that was in the first week that I had him.

I run my warm side temperature at 88 degrees on the glass, given me a top side substrate temperature of 84-85 degrees. Should Roxanne choose to burrow 88 degrees certainly will not burn her.

My cool side temperature is 75 degrees so my viv gives her the necessary temperature gradient.

Your humidity should be just fine. My room humidity runs between 40-45%. I do however, use a ceramic heat emitter on the cool side (my ambient room temperature will dip into the mid 60’s). I will add moist hide when she’s in blue to offset the drying effects of the CHE.

You need to get a measurement of the temperature right on top of the heat pad. That's what you really need to worry about. If that temperature is above 90 you should probably lower it to 88 or so like Steve said. That is how I keep my corns too.

It sounds like you are using your heat pad without a thermostat or rheostat. You really need to get one if this is true. I would say if you are going to invest in one (and you should!!) get a thermostat. It will give you more consistent temperatures without costing you much more. The alife 1000 thermostats that you can get from lllreptiles is great and cheap compared to some others. Set the thermostat so that a thermometer set on top of the glass reads 88 and your temperatures should be fine.

The problem with adding more substrate is that the corn can still get down under the substrate and get burned by the hot glass. The substrate actually insulated the heat pad so the temp right on top of it actually goes up.

And actually it would be a good purchase to get a thermometer with a probe too, but you can just bury the thermometer you have to check the temperature of the surface of the glass.
