The Amazing Fagalo!! (Boxie)

Nanci

Alien Lover
Well, after Fagalo decided I wasn't Godzilla come to eat her, and was instead a source of delicious nightcrawlers, she has turned into a super piglet. She began begging by raising one foreleg. Tonight she outdid herself, and stood completely on her hindlegs! To which I responded by screaming in glee! So I ran into the house to get the camera to try to catch this on film- and was instantly treated as a suspicious person again. I did manage to catch her with one leg raised, poised to stand, and then standing, but turned away from the camera so you can't see both legs off the ground. You'll just have to trust me...

You and those turtles! You crack me up! I really need to come over one of these days and meet these little buggers.

I've still gotta get the frontal shot for proof, though...It's so cool! Who'd have known a boxie could stand on its hind legs!

Nanci, I love that you share your turtles with us. I have wanted a box turtle for so long but felt I didnt have the space to honor it so I have held off. I feel like I am living my box turtle dream vicariously through you!

It's adorable and miraculous in person! I should try to get a video of it. She hates the camera, though.

Nanci

Yeah, it's a superficial crack. She's pretty old. A wild guess, counting her growth rings, which is not especially accurate, places her at around 35 years old.

35, now that's old! :grin01: Your turtle is 10 years older than me! :sidestep:

How did you come up with her name? And how do you pronounce it?

I love boxies. I had one for three years that a friend gave to me after almost running over it with a mower. I let it go last fall and I really miss it.

My ex BF used to call various people/animals that, as a sort of term of endearment. I guess he made it up. Fag-uh-low. It's sort of like "goofball" or "dumbass-" but in an affectionate way, the way he used it. I tried all kinds of names on that turtle- nothing would stick. When she'd run away at feeding time, I started calling her a fagalo, and that turned into her name.

Wow, totally not what I expected. I figured Fagalo was a character in a play or something.

Cute! :)

Me too! I was expecting some obscure, Early American literary reference...and she throws out the ex-boyfriend... :shrugs:

Fagalo is an awesome turtle. I've never really been much into turtles, more because I don;t like seeing them in aquaria and fishtanks. But what you've done with yours is great!

Now...if only we could sell "trick turtles" in the pet shop...hmm... :crazy02:
