Oh and the veggies i feed them are raw. I don't cook them.

Fruits and vegetables are good as a supplement and treat, but not sufficient for their full diet.

You can feed cooked or raw, but raw is probably more nutritious they would undoubtedly like raw fruits or vegetables better.

I feed my rats and mice carrots, cilantro, spinach, broccoli, fresh green beans, grapes. They love frozen peas as well. Carrots more often than anything else because they keep for quite a while in the fridge.

I know you should avoid onions, dried beans and peas, and raw peanuts. Some others that I can't recall. Try a google search for mouse or rat "forbidden foods".

Sorry to hyjack but now I'm concerned I buy rat/mouse food from local Grange Co-op it has dried beans, peas, and peanuts. They don't seem to eat the beans or peas, they do eat some of the peanuts. I'ld like to switch to something I could do myself anyone have a good recipe?
What about carrot tops and do your veggies come from your garden or the store?
I did google forbidden foods nothing. susan

No need to aplogise for a hijack susang. I dont mind at all. In my opinion, where are all here to help each other. I to did a search on forbidden food and came up with nothing.

The best staple food is a good quality lab block like Mazuri or harlan. Most feed stores should be able to get Mazuri 6F lab blocks, they're made by Purina.

As for the peanuts, apparently they are fine if roasted (and unsalted of course). It's just the raw peanuts which aren't good.

This is the list I've gone by, it may not be completely accurate but it's a good list to work with.
